The pats could barely hang with the bills....THE BILLS. You guys are seriously underestimating his contribution to that team. Still, we all know the pats will use this pick to add another pro bowler so its a double edged sword for us
Seahawks will have a pick in the mid-20's. I think Branch was worth more than that to the Pats. Good deal for us. And I like the fact that we scratched the Seahawk's back by making an offer for Branch that forced the grievance. Maybe Holmgren and Tannenbaum will keep this up (first JAbe, now Branch) and both franchises will profit.
Pats Trade Branch At least he is out of the division... Pats trade Branch to 'Hawks for first-round pick NFL.com wire reports (Sept. 11, 2006) -- The New England Patriots ended the holdout of receiver Deion Branch by trading him to the Seattle Seahawks for a draft pick. Patriots spokesman Stacey James confirmed the trade, but offered no further details. New England coach Bill Belichick was to have an afternoon news conference. Branch was entering the last season of the five-year contract he signed as a rookie. He held out of the mandatory minicamp in June and all of training camp. He has been subject to a $14,000 fine for each day he holds out from July 28, the start of training camp. Last season, he caught 78 passes for 988 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs. In his four seasons, he has 213 receptions for 2,744 yards and 14 touchdowns. In the 2005 Super Bowl he had 11 catches for 133 yards against Philadelphia, helping the Patriots win their third championship in four years.
I like Branch....but not for a 1st rd pick. I guess Seattle thinks they are going to go deep in the playoffs and have a very late pick.
Brqnch traded for a first round pick Deion Branch to the Seahawks for a 2007 first round pick: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2583149
why are the seahawks overloading themselves with recievers with massive contracts? good news is that we dont have to worry about branch this week and the seahawks shouldnt give thme anything higher than the 25th pick
First off, I apologize for not providing a link earlier. I happen to be off today and saw the trade announced on tv. I should have typed that I got the info from ESPNEWS. Yesterday Engram had 5 rec. for 52 yards. Burleson caught a pass for 36 yards, Hackett caught one for 14, and Jackson caught 5 for 47 yards. I, too, don't understand why they needed another WR. Also, while I'm mentioning that game- Mike Furrey caught 5 passes for 55 yards for the Lions and Mike Williams was deactivated. Williams was scratched for a former XFL player who played safety for the Rams last season!!!
This is a terrible move on Seattle's part. Money very poorly spent. They gave Burleson 7 years, 49 million in the winter. They gave Darrell Jackson an 8 million dollar signing bonus. I know the cap is expanded, but this is bad football. New England made out like bandits, but it might be rough going for them this season without a true threat. -X-
They lost perhaps the best guard in football in Steve Hutchinson and they now have invested quite a bit in WRs. I agree that that is bad. Matt Hasselbeck better stay healthy now.
Re: Furrey (see post 31) Lions WRs on Sunday: 11- Roy Williams 17- Corey Bradford 15- Devale Ellis 18- Eddie Drummond 87- Mike Furrey (started 11 games at free safety for Rams last year) Ellis played collegiately at Hofstra. He recorded a special teams tackle yesterday. Mike Williams was not active. I like WRs wearing teen numbers, by the way.
Why would they give Branch that contract when they have Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram and Darrell Jackson?
That doesn't make any sense. 1)The trade was made because Seattle obviously doesn't have a lot of confidence in Jackson right now, whether it's because of the injury or something else. 2)Burleson isn't getting #1 money. His "huge contract" is in reality the equivalent of a 4 year, $14 million contract. Voidable years that he'll never get at the end. Either way, Seattle gave up too much here. Even if it's a late 1st rounder, which it should be, Branch is getting a huge new contract. Giving up a 1st for the right to overpay someone is just not good football sense.
wow... BREAKING NEWS!!! check the NFL forum for teh Dieon Branch Traded Thread x7.. But i'm glad to see him out of our division, and that we didnt give up a 1st for him
