I'd have to think long and hard. But if it was rhodes they were asking for they could scratch my left nut.

this would be awesome if we could get him......i wouldn't give up a lot for him like a 1st rounder but he's definetly worth a 3rd or 4th rounder.

You are right. That would be too much. But I don't see the Pats taking someone like Strait. The Pats are asking for too much and I don't think Tangini would let Coleman go anyway. The Pats will try to fleece us, so Tangini should stand firm. If a deal doesn't get done, it won't kill us, so the important thing is not giving in. Be aggressive but also take in other factors and make sure the move won't really hurt the team.

A 2nd rounder and a minor player for Branch is more then enough. They obviously can't give up a 1 for him.

First of all, did I read correctly? 6 years... $36 Million? HOLD THE PHONE!

Please tell me my eyes aren't focusing properly this morning. There's no way I want to pay this freaking 5'9" holdout that kind of money against the Cap and give up a "decent" player and a high draft pick to boot.

I'd sooner take my chances in next year's draft and work with what I've got this year. Penny can't throw a crisp pass more than 20 yards anyway.

I meant Coleman and the second. I like Coleman but i would still trade him straight up for Branch but i wouldnt trade him and the second for Branch.

    If it's Rhodes, it's a definate NO.

But Coleman straight up for Branch would be a heist. Coleman is a solid player, yes, but does not equal Branch...

Now, it'd be tough to put a rookie like Smith or any of the unproven guys like Maddox or Washington alongside Rhodes, but I could cope with that since that is Mangini's specilaity, the secondary.

So basically, Branch will cost us 2 2nd Rd picks and $36 million dollars. Now my a$$ is on fire.

Alot of you are underrating Branch. He's an awesome WR. The New England offense really spreads things around. That's why his numbers aren't what you'd consider great. He's very very good and the Jets do have the Cap room and need a WR. It's a great fit, if only the price trade wise is fair.

NE will try to out manuever our rookie front office and ask for a first rounder. I say let NE keep him and re-negotiate his contract to match the Jets or higher. Nothing would make me happier than to see NE over pay for him. All being equal, I think NE would prefer the Vikings before the Jets. However, a 3 way trade may be on the works with JMac in the midst. One thing for sure. Never a dull moment

    "Basically?"

Because the JMac didn't work out as planned, does not make it "2 2nd round picks"...Tennessee drafted who? Travis LaBoy with that pick? And that happened 3 years ago, you cannot say that.

"Basically" It'd cost the Jets a 2nd and a mediocre player for Branch. And New England would take on JMac's contract of, I believe 6 years $31 million correct? 5 more million for a better WR, right?

Yeah i would trade Coleman straight up for Branch even though i like Coleman but i wouldnt do it if it was Coleman and a second. I think the Jets have a good defense. However if it was Coleman straight up for Branch i would do it.

Would like some confirmation from JetsIn2004 please...

The Jets gave JMac a 6-year $31 million contract with around an $8 million signing bonus.

The Jets have seemingly offered Branch 6 years $36 million, with the signing bonus I assume around $10 million...

So, New England would take on JMac's contract, and the Jets would be paying a little bit more for a much better WR correct?

I hope you're right but there's one small elephant in the ointment: Brady vs. Pennington. I think his talent would be somewhat diminished and even wasted here this year. In fact, inserting an excellent, expensive WR into this offense this year is like entering a new Mercedes convertible into a demolition derby race.

Except we'll be paying 2 x signing bonuses and they'll be paying none.

I tried to make this exact point, and everyone jumped on me calling me a Pennington-basher.

Basically by making the offer we are out manuevering NE. I don't like the potential cost but I like putting NE in this position.

The price is set and NE either has to get in trade what they can now or wait til week ten for him to show up for 6 weeks work and loose him in the offseason.

So the Jets have forced the Pats hand and if they want to keep him they will have to pay him.

Ok, did not know that...How much of JMac's bonus the Jets have paid is a factor...This is his 3rd year, so of the $8 mil he got, I assume they payed at least $5 million if not more...
