It's the 1st 3 yrs that matter, and the guaranteed $. 36M could be big time fluff at the end of the deal.. none of us know.

Wow, I never looked at it that way. Pretty interesting, I think you may be right here.

if they raced to the 50 from the end zone macareins would be on the 35 when branch finished......so I think on athleticism alone branch is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above mac

yea you could do that for a lot of guys........hell flip flop mccareins with marvin harrison last year....i bet mccareins would have blown him out of the water in stats.....branch is clearly a much better gameday player

Clearly? I don't see it. McCareins, like any Jets receiver, was held down by the NYJ offense. Branch is a good player.. better than McCareins in my opinion... but by how much is the question? Enough to absorb 4M in cap hit for McCareins + 10+ mill signing bonus over 6 yrs for Branch? Not in my mind.

i just really like deion branch as a player, i have for a while now....i really think he is a top 10-12 guy

McCareins i really thought could be good for us, i still have hopes that he turns it around, but the thread is getting very thin as of late....

I wouldn't take this deal... I don't like McCareins but having him is better than giving up draft picks and a mega-contract for a guy who is by no means dominating. Branch is a nice player but like Moss he is marginal... he has the ability to blow open games or be totally and utterly shutout. This money should be used elsewhere... we'll survive on the WRs we currently have.

No way is it worth in in my mind either. Hell Brady could have throw to a quadriplegic and made him look as good as Branch. And now he wants elite money? No way.

If the NERPs (or whatever) are asking for 2 first rounders, per ESPN Radio reports; then its clear they have no intention of letting him get away. The FO would be on crack to agree to that.

    I can agree...

My mind just wonders (no evidence) that if McCareins was with NE and Branch with NYJ, would Branch be on the bubble and McCareins holding out?

Bellichek would have cut McCareins so the answer is Branch.

I didn't say McCareins was faster than Branch.

    Never once.

I said Mccareins is NOT SLOW. Everyone thinks he's friggen a 5.0 40 guy. The bias on this board against McCareins is tough to deal with.

Branch is better than McCareins, but I don't think it's by that much. I think the system they were in led to a lot of it.

Number of Superbowl MVP's in their mid 20's on the Jets = None. This is a no brainer if it's only for a 2nd round pick and a fringe player.

To even compare Jmac and Branch is a joke. Branch is an awesome receiver.

That's because we see McCariens every day and we only see branch running wild against Phil in the SB, Carolina in the SB or Pitt and Denver in the AFC championship games.
