I don't think the Pats care who they trade with if they think it makes the team better. They traded Bledsoe to the Bills a couple years ago. If they felt the Jets were offering the best package I think they'd be more than willing to trade Branch to NY.
LMAO....The NEPs???!?!?! Are you serious with this....the NEPs??? Can't wait to order my matching superbowl hat and shirt with the NEPs in big red letters
i think thats the case aswell. the jets do have the leverage. if he holds out, then they get no value for him. but 2 first rounders? hogwash. 1 first rounder? blasphemy. look at what the eagles traded for stallsworth.. a 4th rounder and a back-up line backer. the media in boston is either a) dreaming, or b) explaining the realitiy that the patriots are trying to squeeze us into budging. but i think if we we wait, regardless of if we get him or not we win. if belicheck wants value, he'll eventaully concede for a second rounder.
i didnt read this whole thread, but my espn mobile said seahawks have the same deal pretty much as the jets. So IMO Branch would go to the hawks because they are on the other side of the country and they are in the NFC instead if in the same division.
I agree with you...I think there was some albeit tiny little part in tanginis head that said they could land this guy....even if jetsin2004 knew all along it was impossible
I really hope this isn't a smokescreen or anything, I want the jets to seriously try and land branch in NY.
im sure the pats would rather send branch to a super bowl contendor on the other side of the country then sending him to the jets.
If already posted, my apologys Jets, Seahawks on Branch’s dance card By John Tomase Boston Herald Sports Writer Friday, September 1, 2006 - Updated: 02:31 PM EST It appears the Patriots misread the Deion Branch market and it may cost them their No. 1 wide receiver. Sources confirm that Branch has received two offers, from the Jets and Seahawks, in the $36 million to $39 million range. Each offer is for six years, with the guaranteed money undisclosed. The Patriots have set a 4 p.m. deadline this afternoon for Branch to reach an agreement with another team, at which point the Patriots would attempt to complete a trade. The Patriots are believed to be seeking one and possibly two first-rounders for Branch, which makes the possibility of a deal far less likely, considering that wideouts from Javon Walker to Ashley Lelie to Donte Stallworth have each been traded recently for no better than a second-round pick. If the Patriots do trade Branch, it will mark the end to one of the most protracted, contentious holdouts in club history. The Patriots offered Branch a three-year, $18.75 million extension in May, which agent Jason Chayut rejected. The two sides have basically been at a standstill since, with Chayut offering to get Branch into camp this season to honor the final year of his five-year rookie contract for $ 1.045 million in exchange for not having the franchise tag placed on him next season. The Patriots refused. A rival executive this week noted that the Patriots appeared to be attempting to show Branch that he had “no stroke” on the market and should reconsider New England’s offer. That apparently changed in the last 24 hours with the two offers.
But that is all part of it 227. This is a deal that not only helps for this year but it helps for the future as well. Branch is only 27 and he is a bona fide threat at the WR position. I don't think that it is Pennys fault that Moss struggled his last year here but that is besides the point.
Let me ask you this question... The past 2 yrs... you place McCareins in NE and Branch with the NYJ... who do you think does better? Branch is a good player, but he's a product of his offense... McCareins is not much worse.
