Good point, but this is a different year teams all around the league have better defenses and for us a better offense. If this were last year I would not be so confident about going to NE and winning by 10 but this year I am. When you face a team that is good on both you're screwed. Let's review a little bit, last week vs Detroit, they have their backup QB and RB in and had you guys on your heels for most of the game. Over 400 yards of offense with second string players at key positions, Best and Stafford make that team dramatically better. Even still through the 3rd quarter it was a tie game. Indy decimated by injuries goes to NE and puts up nearly 500 yards and if not for a very uncharacteristic mistake by Peyton they still might've won their. Steelers, even worse off on the injury front but more on the defensive side obviously. Wallace tore you guys a new asshole, another week of over 400 yards of offense put up on your "D". The same reason we WON week 2 will be the same reason we win Monday, we are a complete team we can put up the yards and points, at the same time hold your team to under 300 yards and 17 points. You haven't faced a team like us since Baltimore, despite our loss to them in which our offense laid an egg we are better. Even in that game, Heap was causing you guys fits and he was injured in the 2nd half and out for the game.
Pats' defensive stats are a bit skewed from games where they've gotten a big lead, including both the Indy and Pitt games. They go into a prevent D early and let teams march down the field. If it takes them 7 or 8 minutes per drive, Pats win. Most of us don't like that strategy, but in Bill we trust.
The Pats were not in prevent mode against the Colts. I didn't see the Steelers game, but if you're claiming they were in prevent against the Colts I doubt you're right about the Steelers. Your defense sucks.
idk I think there's a big difference between middle of the pack in turnovers and being #2 in the league but what do I know?
The key to this game is the Jets being able to exploit the Pats defense. They need to keep the offense on the field as much as possible and not get just FGs but TDs. If the Jets put up 28, they win this.
Obviously I noticed that as well, and agree that it is significant. I was simply making that comparison to refute claims that history proves that with the pats defense we can never win, etc, etc..." This league has changed since 30 years ago, when the saying "Defense wins championships" really applied. Great offense can be enough, especially when accompanied by an opportunistic defense. Indy gave up 170+ ypg RUSHING in 2006, and they won a SB because no one could stop them from scoring, including the great Bears defense.
They played lights out defense in 3/4 of the games (the one where they didn't they beat a shoot out vs the Pats). They won the WC game 23-8, division 15-6, CC 38-34 (shootout), SB 29-17...it's not like they were outscoring everybody left and right in the playoffs. The Indy defense also had a good amount of veterans, the Pats defense has a lot of youth/inexperience. We'll see wat happens
Yeah but they only gave up 159 passing yards a game currently NE is giving up nearly 300 yards passing and 111 rushing a game, big difference.
