Pittsburgh is the toughest place in the NFL to kick field goals. Brien being the scapegoat of that game was comical. We scored 17 points on a punt return and int return.

The offense did absolutely nothing....that was the problem with those Chad teams he was great against the softer defenses but against the Ravens, Steelers and Pats he struggled mightily.

Jets lost 7 games that season, 4 of which were against Pitt and New England. Offense score a comibined 9 points in both Steeler games. But hey lets blame the kicker.

that excuse didn't fly then and it doesn't now. he missed the first by an inch then hooked the 2nd one which was 4 yards closer. it had nothing to do w/ it being a tough place to kick.

Brien missed 2 makeable FGs when he only needed to hit 1.

The O struggled, they had a QB playing w/ a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. Do we forget that?

Chad never played the Ravens and handed the Pats a loss at Gillette in 2002 and NE wouldn't lose another home game until 2005.

No one said it was all Brien's fault but he had TWO chances at makeable FGs, he missed both.

Brien missing kicks in the toughest stadium in the league isnt a reason to draft a kicker with your first pick the following season. Especially when the offense could literally do nothing against the team that ended their season.

Brien had missed a bunch of kicks for us. I agree they panicked but oak had selected janikowski in the 1st rd and it worked out so we can see their line of thinking. As it turned out the K meant nothing to us in 2005 w/ so many injuries.

u are rite junc about brien and stuff but when a team puts in thousands of hours of scouting, grading, traveling, etc etc during the offseason only to draft a kicker on day 1 is not panicking, its mind boggling.

id love to know who ultimately signed off on that pick. its one for the ages unfortunately.

u know this already - never ever ever draft a kicker before round 5 or 6. with the 7 round draft nowadays - position players are that much more of a premium.

Using the end of life Al Davis Raiders as an example is an auto-fail, but even the Raiders at least got a rock solid kicker out of the deal. I mean if you're going to take a kicker that early he had better be outstanding! Nugent couldn't even kickoff into the endzone let alone make long field goals with any consistency.

That was one of the most retarded picks of all time. No justifying it.

A first round draft pick is supposed to be pivitol for the success of the team.

There's on average id say 120-140 plays per game in the NFL.

How many can Janikowski influence? 4-5%

It doesnt add up, even after 12 years.

No wonder the raiders are a team ridden with rotten clunge

I'm not baiting anyone, I stated a fact. Is it unconventional what they did? sure, would I recommend it? of course not but they made a SB with him. He's been in oak since 2000, that's a better pick than many in that 1st round.

10+ years of reliable FG kicker & being one of the top FG kickers in the league for that entire run. Also able to send kickoffs into the endzone. He's worked out well for the Raiders. They've got some stupid picks in their history but I think Janikowski worked out well for them.

However, I would consider odds of such an early pick on kicker working out as too small. I'll give the Raiders credit for a good pick there but I don't wanna see Jets gambling like that on their early round picks.

Whenever I read about kickers and Super Bowls I'm reminded that Doug Brien won one.

I hear a lower level paper pusher in the mail room saw talent in Kapernick but no one listened, And the guy that paints the lines on the field saw the upside of Alfred Morriss
