Bradway wanted Russel Wilson http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...wilson-coveted-by-one-new-york-jets-executive "During last year's draft season, Bradway's view on the incoming quarterback class was clear. He wanted Russell Wilson. Bradway talked about Wilson so much that the Wisconsin product was called "Russell Bradway" inside the Jets' building, defensive coordinator Mike Pettine told The Star-Ledge" Instead we drafted Stephen Hill
Merged this with an older thread. I guess I wanted to prove my lack of football knowledge by saying I might prefer Demario Davis to Wilson.
I was wondering how 3 pages magically appeared. I didn't see the topic on the front page, heard it on the radio on my way home and thought it was new news.
We fell into the same traps/mistakes that everyone in the league fell for. Right now, teams all over this league have gotta be kicking themselves for passing on this guy multiple times. I'm hoping Jets learned to start looking for QB with earlier picks. Don't think the talent is there for 1st round QB but I'm hoping they don't automatically scratch QB off their lists in other rounds. The upside to finding the right QB is franchise changing. I'd be OK with a 2nd or 3rd rounder spent on a QB project that just carries a clip board while Sanchez/McElroy tank away another season. ==== Another interesting take on this: 1 - Bradway wanted Wilson 2 - Rex wasn't looking at Hill for round 2 So who exactly was Tanny listening to? I doubt it was Joey Clinkscales. If Joey Clinkscales had Tanny's ear then would he just pack up & go to Raiders when he's got so much control with the Jets? With the Tanny trade up in 2nd round for Hill combined with what we've learned, I think it's obvious Tanny was making some talent-acquistion decisions by himself. He was a lot more than simply an accountant babysitting the GM spot & bowing to Rex on personnel decisions. I'm NOT saying Tanny was aggressively opposed to other football minds around him. However, I am confident to say he had final input in a lot more than simply salary cap moves.
Maybe your right, but separate from the Tanny argument, we did actually need a WR, whether we needed to trade up is another matter. My biggest complaint about Hill is drafting him because he's the fastest in the draft ie drafting an athlete instead of a football player. You'd think we'd learn our lesson after Gholston. I'm not saying Hill is a bust just over valued. Any moron can look up the fastest or strongest player. It take more skill actually evaluate a player on the complete package and future potential.
Really don't understand the hate on Wilson here from a lot of you guys. He completed 64% of his passes for over 3K yards, and accounted for 30 TDs with only 15 TOs. He also had a passer rating of 100 on the dot and ran for almost 500 yards. What is "average" about that? I'd like to see an example of an average or below average QB who put up numbers like that in their rookie year. Obviously having Marshawn Lynch was beneficial, but the kid had an outstanding year and is a hell of a football player. I don't see that changing much.
This thread was made before Wilson really exploded onto the national stage. I saw him play at State, so I knew he was a good player. However, some people didn't have that benefit, so it took a while for them to understand. That being said, I wonder if we would have developed Wilson properly. It didn't help thart we had field goal fist pumper on our staff at the time.
That's my biggest complaint against Rex. He didn't allow for any serious competition for QB. It was Sanchez or bust. Pete Carol after paying Flynn the same as Sanchez was willing to trust what he saw in practice/preseason to go with Russell. He didn't feel the need to be pressured into playing Flynn because of the money.
Look at the date/time on the posts earlier in this thread. As of today, this entire board would love to have Wilson here (outside of a couple Sanchez cult followers).
Somewhere on here (beginning of the season) there was a prediction thread and Wilson was my pick for OROY. He might not get it, but hey he was in the running.
I don't beieve anything Bradway says. He is just some guy clinging to the garbage can for scraps. i like Wilso. I have seem him three times and he never played like a frook. He is very composed and his arm is not bad. He also appears to be accurate. Sanchez has ruined me for accuracy. So I can only say that Wilson seems accurate.
Haha my bad, didn't realize that. I guess we'll have to keep this thread in mind when we inevitably draft our next franchise QB and half of the posters want to anoint them as a hopeless waste before they ever see the field.
This thread was from before.... Wilson was also spectacular under playoff pressure, essentially delivering two wins until the choke at 31 seconds. He also tied the all time Passing TD rookie record. I'll take Wilson over just about every QB in the league except a select few.
