WRs getting separation is a compilation of the playcalling, the actual talent of the WR, and the QB moving the defense with his eyes. I don't think any of those things are really working right now.

In defense of the Jets WRs, however, I think they are all good run-blockers and a lack of quickness is generally the concession you have to make for that (though there have been exceptions).

Smith should be brought in on 3rd and short maybe? If the pocket collapses he can run better than Sanchez....

In the Miami game, they had a 4 WR set and then sent LT in motion, I love that idea!

When Sanchez and Schotty get on the same page this could be a deadly formation.

    This thread is retarded.

The Brad Smith at WR experiment was attempted and failed, the role he is in now is great for him.

Cotchery is a very good WR.

    Knee-jerk reactions suck

Now Im just throwing an Idea out here.....

What if Smith worked as QB this off season and moved to 2nd string QB and move Brunell back to 3rd?

That's been talked about at length numerous times.

In the end it's pointless, his role now is perfect.

If he happens to throw some balls out of the WC that's fine, but no reason to burden him with learning the whole offense from the QB's POV.

thats insane. You want to keep a KR/gadget player over a proven WR who provides Sanchez with a big target? Sure Braylon dissapears, but he gets infinitely more plays a game than Brad does. On offense Brad gets what 3 plays/touches a game? Edwards has the ability to take over a game, he has the ability to be a big time deep threat and complete this offense, you know if everybody functioned as they should. Holmes is the clutch guy, Cotch is the sure handed wonder, Edwards is the big play guy, Keller is the consistent match-up nightmare. Then throw in LT out of the backfield, and its a filthy offense. If we ever functioned like it...

You're focusing on what Smith does as a WR.

Focus on what the other 5 jobs he carries out every week and does them extremely well. He's actually more valuable than Braylon from that standpoint. No other player on this team can play 5 different positions other than their true position.

im going to preface this by saying that the thread title is dumb

but cotch has had 3 horrible games this year and, unlike our other WRs who have had bad games, i cant think of a single game where he was above average

he has sucked pretty much the whole year

He most likely won't get signed with the Pats unless the Jets outright release him.

Assuming the Jets give him a decent offer, other teams will have to start paying the Smith more than he's worth to lure him away. The Pats aren't stupid, they know Smith is a gadget player and they aren't likely to fight with Redskins-like team in a bidding contest. The Pats went for Woodhead because he was cheap and undervalued, which seems to be the forte of the Pats FO in finding those guys.

Smith is by far the best all around player we have, he does everything very well, but outside of Special Teams, he isnt particularly great at anything.

Edwards is a damned good receiver, and in order to help further the growth of Sanchez (who the past two-three weeks has shown he has plenty of room for improvement) we need to give him the most weapons possible. Smith actually hurts the rythm sanchez has within the offense. Edwards has shown himself to be over his dropsies, in fact I would bet he has the most consistent hands on the team this year, other than LT. Sanchez needs him and Holmes to continue to develop into an elite player in this league.

Brad Smith is a great player, and I want him back most definately, but if we are equating monetary value between Smith and Edwards, you most definately need to keep Edwards.

If that idea didn't fail three years ago then I'd say you might have an idea that will fail in the future.

Bart Scott is greater than Tony Richardson.

They play different positions, therefore you can't compare them.

Whaaat? Did you not watch the Miami game last week? Sure he had a drop or two, but he also had 5 catches for 70 yards. 4 of the catches were for 1st downs I believe and a couple coming on 3rd down. How is that not helping us? Also, he hasn't had as many chances this year because of Holmes and Keller stepping it up a bit from last year.

He hasn't been a stand out for us this year like years past, but what do you expect when his role is limited now with the other options?

I don't have enough posts to start a thread, but this is related to the Cotchery/Smith question

Jets are going to lose a receiver through free agency. They should move Keller out wide. I don't think he's big or strong enough to play a TE as its now being played ( like Gates, Hernandez or Gronkowski, for example), and he doesn't seem to be able to get open from the TE position.

He would be great out wide, especially from the slot

THe Jets need their own monster sized TE. Can Cumberland play?
