It is now very easy to see why Bowles kept using Fitzpatrick when the season was over, he didn't want us screaming for Hackenberg if we saw nothing from Petty. Bottom line is they were going to make sure we the fans were not going to scream how could you use a pick in the second round on this guy.
Whether he's been amazing or downright awful what is he supposed to say? "Yeah actually Hackenberg has sucked so far. No idea what that idiot upstairs saw in him."
Warning: Manish Mehta article. This just came out. Not looking good for our second rounder... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ource=twitter.com&utm_campaign=mmehta+twitter
If the "ocean" report and the above article are true, I just sincerely hope Mac is man enough to admit he made a mistake and find a QB early in this draft. Not only does his job depend on it, but reluctancy to do so would set us back even further.
Clickbait article. Mehta has no source within the organization. Guys will pile on Hack all off-season until he lights it up during OTA's and mini camp, etc.
I kind of feel sorry for the kid. The style of journalism that comes out now just buries a prospect before they get a shot. But hopefully this lights a fire under his ass.....
Scheffer's was a bit different. I actually think it was said by Patullo when he knew he was getting fired. Mehta has a player's quote and an executive saying something negative, doubt it honestly. Who knows though, we'll know more in the next few weeks.
Yeah sucks he was written off before he even took his first snap in a regular season game. I have to think that if any other team takes him we don't hear these stories or quotes.
I've not looked at it and won't, but surely it's no surprise to anyone that Mehta produces his own version of can't hit an ocean a few days later.
and if he doesn't "light it up"? Suppose all these statements we're seeing linked to the Jets about Hackenberg are true? Wrap him up again and redshirt him until 2018? 2019 maybe? Frankly I don't think the Jets are capable of developing a young Qb. Hack's chances are better than Petty's because the GM's rep (and quite possibly his job) is linked to Hack. The GM has nothing professionally invested in Petty so if Petty doesn't recover from his surgery? no big deal. If Hack doesn't develop? tragedy.
Why do Jets fans keep giving that Hack (pun completely intended) clicks? Everything Mehta writes is just garbage.
That may or may not be true. It could be that the writer takes positions or writes articles that some don't agree with. There's no way Mehta could continue being the NYDN beat writer with fake articles not based in fact. That would jeopardize the DN's integrity (what's left of it). I submit that Mehta's articles, especially since Schefter has written similar pieces on the Jets, reflect an accurate albeit not publically stated opinion of Hackenberg and his potential. I find it very hard to believe Mehta and Schefter colluded to write hit pieces on Hackenberg for the helluva it.
Mehta is wrong anyway, we don't even have close to the worst QB situation in the league. Now that Fitz is off the books, we are spending pennies on our QBs. We don't even have the worst QB situation in our own division! Buffalo just pissed off the only guy that can play QB in their building and face a difficult, expensive decision, is a worse situation. Houston, with their $72 mil QB who doesn't look any better than our guys, is a worse situation. The Rams and Philly both sold the farm to get their guys that may or may not be any better than our guys. Chicago, yikes!, enough said. Cleveland. The Vikings face some difficult, expensive decisions over some mediocre QBs. The Colts are paying Luck $140 million. He better be what everyone says he is. if Hackenberg and Petty suck who cares we aren't out much. Mehta is a drama queen
As long as Mehta pulls in money for the NYDN I doubt they really care if he pulls anonymous sources out of his you know what. The problem with anonymous sources is that there is no credibility and Mehta consistently uses anonymous sources. His hit pieces on Hack are exactly that, not credible. Until we get a name with these quotes about Hack then everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
NYDN is a tabloid. Schefter quotes an unnamed coach, who was fired likely. Now Mehta has an executive and a player quote behind it? Great timing if you ask me. I wouldn't be shocked if the Jets fed this to the media on purpose.
I'm not saying he'll light it up just saying this is the cycle of the NY media. Same with Kristaps Porzingis for the Knicks. He was too weak, too tall, 2 years away from being 2 years away.
