All that said you guys outplayed us today. Im going to just end this what if game now. Abreu is trash, and we got limited by Julian Tavarez. Hopefully we can take the rubber match tomorrow
Schilling and Pettite tomorrow. Should be a good one, even though I'll miss the first half while I'm at baseball practice. Maybe I'll tape it.
Hmmm. . . NESN announcers saw it entirely different. And, again, so did the umpire and Robbie Cano. Me + 3 replays on NESN + Jerry Remy + Don Orsillo + Umpire + Joe + Cano >> You. It's not even really a fair argument for you. Good that you give it a spirited try, though.
Except there were about four different camera angles that clearly showed that he was out. The reason Cano and Torre didn't argue was because it was too close of a play to bother arguing. To be honest, I thought he was safe at first and I don't blame the umpire for making that call. When the play was slowed down you could easily see he was out. Maybe NESN didn't show the same camera angles.
Since we're all so concerned about correct officiating, does anyone have anything to say on the 2nd base umpire not calling interference on A-Rod for elbowing Pedroia to break up a double play in the 8th? It gave NY a run.
I actually did point it out at the time. More than that, I also admitted that Posada should have been called out at first. The throw beat him. But Crisp was out. By about a hand length. Cano did react to the call, but arguing gets you nowhere, and only sets you up for a worse call the next time. The one thing I'll give the ump, when you see where he was standing, and the angle he had to the play, there was probably no way he could actually see where Crisp's hand was when he was tagged. As for the what-if game, the thing about it is it could go either way. If it's 4-3 in the 9th, perhaps the Yanks rally shakes Papelbon. Then again, maybe Papelbon is more stingy on his pitch selection. There's no way to know. The fact remains that a supposed playoff team should not be trying to make up a multiple run deficit in the 9th inning. We got pwned by a guy who is supposed to be in the bullpen, celebrating his what, 34th birthday? Hell, if we're going to complain about anything, we should be getting pissed off at the wind that held ARod's ball in the park. Big matchup tonight. Can the Yankees figure it out tonight and get to Schilling early? Pettitte has been very good so far, but has a losing record to show for it. Story of the season. Good starting pitching performances, poor offensive showings.
You can always count on Mussina in a big game Tonight is now basically a must win, I know it's still only May but we have to start picking up games so this game is vital.
I thought you were a Moose fan? Anyway, yeah, give him a game that doesn't make a difference, and suddenly his knurve has bite. Put him up against a real team, in a game that is at all important, and watch him serve up meatballs. I agree tonight is a must win. We have to start picking up games now. If we don't start winning series immediately, we are going to fall out of the WC race. Once that happens, we're just wasting money paying Pettitte and Clemens. We need to play the way we did in the ninth all game. We also can't afford to leave 6 guys in scoring position. Something has to change, and quickly.
Great quote by pedroia on the arod play. stin Pedroia said that Alex Rodriguez's attempt to break up a double play in the eighth inning Tuesday was "a little cheap," adding that Rodriguez "went in late and kind of threw an elbow." "No big deal," Pedroia said. "Some people play like that and some people slide in, good, clean slide. I think he probably got a little carried away. It happens. I have to turn two against the Yankees 19 times a year. I know now that when he's coming in, my arm slot gets dropped to the floor. That's it. No big deal." Baseball will always police itself when these things happen.
