And worrying that the lineman they want won’t get passed the jags at 33 or the jags are willing to deal it away. With 10 picks available you can be a little loose to secure your guy.
That 5th year option is always nice to have though

My predictions are never very bold nor accurate but here it goes.
1- A defensive player will be taken with the second pick. No big surprises day one
2- The real draft action for the Jets starts in day two and beyond, three trades will be made
3- Six of the first ten picks will be offense, 2 OL, 2 WR, a RB and a kicker. Defense with Edge, 2 CB, LB
4- One major trade involving CJ and a vet QB
5- We will have three in the running for rookie of the year out of this crop

If they did this I would hope it would be a double swap. Something like The 34 and a 4th rounder for the 31 and a 6th. The Jets really need numbers at this point. Thin weak roster says no to consolidation trade ups. Those are how we got in trouble in the first place in the 00's and our roster was much stronger back then. This one really can't afford to lose extra shots at NFL players.

If it’s day one must be a trade up to 31 on a trade.

In a strange way the dude who is always wrong can be used as someone who's always right. It's the 50/50 guys who drive me nuts.

Exactly. Any time there may be a different way to do it, it takes a confident HC, GM, etc to do it. Ur 4th down thing, the name that comes to my mind is Belichick as the HC who was most daring going for it (like on his own side of the 50) when no other HC would dare.

Back to the QB thing, sooner or later there will be a team that just turns down the 2nd contract for their QB who's won a lot of games, but never the big one. The QB/Team that comes to my mind is Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Pretty good QB (REALLY good QB with Julio Jones), making a TON of money, but could never win the big one. Cant help but wonder how many times Atlanta wished they had moved on from Matty for the QB de'jour (on a rookie contract!). Atlanta is an example of a team stuck in QB hell (there are several). They will never will it all with their current team/QB, but they can't move on. Pittsburg is another. At least 10 other teams. Baltimore is about to become the 11th team stuck in QB/Team hell.

I bet the Colts are glad they didn't let Peyton walk when his rookie contract expired just because he couldn't win the big one until year 9.

The team that should routinely say no to the big QB contract is the team that just won it all.

They're built well and the proof of concept is they just won it all. Rewarding ONE player for that win with a huge contract is about the most anti-competitive thing you can do and mostly the teams that do this never sniff another Super Bowl.

It is true that the big deal usually is structured to let the team compete well the next season but then they are just screwed.

According to the chart it would cost a 5th and swap 6s. So we end up with 9 picks instead of 10. That’s not going to bankrupt the roster. Tanny got in trouble because he constantly traded up and some of the picks he trade up for didn’t pan out.

You make some really good points. I agree 24 will go defense, either edge or DB. Only way we're wrong is if one of the top 3 tackles (they've been named 100 times on here) make it to 24, at which point JD will have some serious decision making to do. He'd probably show deference to the oline and save the edge/db for next year.

As far as your #2, that 3 trades, absolutely. You have to think about it from JD's perspective: He needs W-X-Y-Z players to build a SB winning team, and he has 2-3 more years to make it happen. Ya, he needs weapons for Zack. Ya, we need oline help, guards, RT, maybe C too. Yup, we need a #1DB. And a young PASS RUSHER!!!, oh and a #1 RB, TE, and about 10 other positions. I don't see JD falling in love with a player near 24 in this years draft and trading up for him. FAR more likely he trades down a bit again, and again, and ends up with 2-3-4 more picks.

So far he's done good trading down for extra draft cap....if Morgan is named the BUQB, that's huge....that's what we traded down last year for! It'd be nice to see some of these trade downs paying off!

If Atlanta wants Lance they wont need to trade up for him. If they really think the niners gave all that capital up to take Lance then the league has gone full bore crazy.

Yeah that’s how I see it. It may have been a waste of a pick but if you told me that he only drafted Becton, Mims, Davis, Hall, and Mann I would have said who cares about the rest.

    Good job and interesting.

    1. I hope that you're wrong. I want this pick to be an OL.

    2. Three trades, that would be exciting, yet worrisome. IMO the team needs quality players as key positions as much as it needs numbers. I hope that JD doesn't bypass some great prospects just to add more draft picks.

    3. I think more than six out of ten picks should be used on offense this year. Still, I would be shocked, but very pleased if JD takes two WRs. What about TE? I hope he doesn't take an Edge. IMO say most there should be only 3 defensive picks: a WLB, and one or two CBs.

    4. Interesting. I'd be shocked if CJ is moved. I hope that JD doesn't trade for a veteran QB if it costs much. I think that it would benefit Wilson to sit, but imo JD should have signed Beathard before Jacksonville did or signed someone else.

    5. I LOVE this one! Sure hope that you're right!

9er's trade up is kinda a mystery to me. Did they trade 3 1st round picks for the #3 'spot' (kinda like Macc did for us), or do they have a specific player in mind they think will be there at 3? They did this trade before the prodays, and before the medicals, so it's hard to imagine they have a specific player in mind since they had never gotten a chance to see any of them up close.

To me, the 9ers saw a rich class of QBs, from Trevor to Fields to Zack, even Mac Jones to Lance. So they took their shot and moved up, all the while examining the entire class, including Zack, Jones, Fields, Lance, etc. As the days wore on and the rumors came out, the Jets seemed locked into Wilson, which frees up Jones, Fields, Lance, et all for them at 3 to decide on.

I would guess that even today, less than a week from the draft, they are still debating which QB to take. Their discussions might be like: 'Mac Jones is more heady and more ready day 1, but Fields is far more athletic and may have a higher ceiling, and Trey Lance is the dark horse who may be the best QB of the entire class in 3-4-5 years".

I don't believe the 9ers are too worried about taking a player many felt would have fallen to them at #12 w/o the need to trade up. Like several on here have said about us taking Wilson/Fields/Whoever, if you fall in love with a QB prospect, DON'T PLAY GAMES!!!

On the Draft Challenge @Brook! pinned on the first page, I have the 9ers going with Trey Lance (after a long month to evaluate all 3-5 QBs within their reach). To me (and probably no one else!) I see Trey Lance as a weird blend of Tom Brady and Arron Rogers. He's the prospect with the most intrigue. The longer they hold on to Garoppolo, the more likely they will be drafting a developmental QB with insane upside!

    4 more days!!!

If the niners take Lance it will make me cry even harder that we didn't trade down. Picks 5-14 are becoming a ridiculous gold mine. Most of the last decade we drafted 5-10, and the one year we draft high there is a pot of gold below us. lol
    Even our luck is Jetsy.

I predict that on draft day a lot of posters who only come around for games and the draft will be ranting that we should be trading the 2nd pick. I also predict that I will join in with them.

it was Bucky Brooks...and to be honest, he’s more idiot than guru. I find it hard to believe he was ever a scout, but clearly, no NFL team thinks he knows anything, otherwise he’d still be scouting instead of talking about it on TV. The guy is clueless...literally every take he has is beyond stupid.

With such a rich QB class, trading down was preferred (to me anyway), but the day we traded Sam away was the day trading down probably wasn't in the cards. It looks like Zack at 2 for better or for worse!
