The signing of Hamilton makes it a lock we're not even looking DE in this draft. I really think we're planning to land a monster NT at 25, which means we're either moving Robertson to DE, or trading him to move up and grab the best NT in the draft, Branch. We have Ellis, Kimo, Coleman, Hamilton, and possibly Robertson at DE in 2007. If we draft a 3-4 DE at all, much less on day one, I'll be shocked. Rounds 1 and 2, in no particular order - NT, OG, LB
don't forget, Ellis is around 30, so who knows how much longer he'll be here;maybe we'll draft his heir. or maybe we'll draft a guy with a lot more upside than those we have. i wouldn't rule out DE by any means, but now it's not such an immediate necessity. cheers
Ellis will be around for another 5+ years, playing at an above average level. He just seems like that kind of football player to me. I'm not ruling it out by any means mind you. If the very BPA at any point is a 3-4 DE we might just take him. I would just be surprised.
Ellis being 30 years old isn't an issue at all. He can play here for 4-5 more years easily. The only position where 30 years old may worry fans is RB because of the amount of carries. Age isn't an issue on this team, let's not make it one.
i'm not trying to make Ellis' age sound urgent. but you have to figure in 2-3 years, there may be a younger, stronger, more athletic DE ready to start over him. cheers
