Definite you do have a point. I won't disagree with you. I am not convinced with him but next year I hope we are one of the top defenses in the league. I made the thread to see peoples responses and overall it worked.

I saw some people responses talking about how it doesn't matter because Mangini probably has all his hands on the Defense. I agree in a away but it's always great to have another good defensive mind that will come up with good gameplans. It's hard enough to be a head coach. HC's need good coordinators so everything won't be overwhelming. Hence the Belichick, Weis, Crennel days.

    I'm sorry I'm even replying to raj-garbage.

So 2003-2006 both teams used the same players in the same systems?
Mangini=overrated????? The man wasn't expected to more than 5 games as a HC , and he doubles the tally. Stop sitting next to Ricki Williams on the school bus.

our dc did a great job considering all the 3 and outs we had on offense. we took chances and it's been a long time since i've seen the jets pressure the qb with safety and lb blitz. we should improve next year and hope to see brady running for his life next season.

The scourge of literary patience?s has returned. Take the Ram's for example. This team won a super bowl with a very porous defense, they looked amazing at time but had a normal progression in a game to give up some play's (They weren?t consistent). The following year they were much improved on defense, being that was the focus during the off season after they won the super bowl. The Baltimore ravens of 2000 were one of the best defenses to ever play the game, they lucked out one year and their defense literally won them a super bowl, but in following years their defense was unable to duplicate the feat. Showing that sometimes defenses can carry you to the promise land and sometimes offenses can also carry you to the big game. Romeo Crennel Wow how impressing he was back when he was with New England, wheres he now ......Garbage. Dean pees (lift the lid please)
Look what he has to work with! For our defensive coordinators from the past Teddy Catrell was a big signing at the time who would have know that he would not be able to change his trade mark 3-4 alignment coaching style and run a 4-3 as he was asked to do! (Herm the douche). Donnie was a keeper, sorry we let him go! Bob Sutton gets a pass. I think he did a brilliant job with what he was asked to do. Year two will be the tweaking time to get it right.

I thought he did an outstanding job. Bob Sutton is the perfect coordinator for this defense, if for no other reason than that he's going to give us consistency. He's not going to get another head coaching job, as I feel he is too old (55/56), yet he's got tons of experience. This was one of the unheralded moves that Mangini made in the offseason, and I thought it paid off big time.

Now, that said, I'm not saying that Sutton is the best DC in the league, what I am saying is that our defense gelled pretty well in the second half of the season with a new scheme, and the team went 6-2, putting up some pretty darn good numbers along the way.

Can we stop a top 5 rushing attack? Absolutely not. Do I think that's more attributable to the players on the field than the coaching staff? Absolutely. I say: Don't change anything except the personnel on the field. Get rid of Kimo VO, or at least bench him, and go after a top tier D lineman in either the draft or in FA. LB Corps is solid, but lacks depth. Secondary is always a problem for the jets... and even when you think they've solved it, it turns out that nothing's changed. Need an edge rusher and another DT that's a little bit more dumpy and huge than DROB.

    Those are one devteam's thoughts.

I say he did ok and to give him another year. The 3 - 4 is not an easy defense to learn and with a smallish ILB like Vilma in there who by the way is a film guru, it took time but by the 2nd 1/2 of the season we had one the stingiest D's in FB as far as PPG and we held well against the run and did great against the pass. I say with a bigger NT and someone else to replace Kimo and another CB to compliment Dyson we'll be straight.

They had the #4 D in points allowed and 7 in yards allowed. They did not have a porous D, the porous D came about in 2000 when they dropped to 31 in points allowed and 24 in yards allowed.

First half of the season he called the plays conservative and the defense played tight. After the bye week he started calling blitzes and got creative, and that's when the defense became loose and played great defense. In the last 8 games, the D let up under 13 points a game! And thats what's really important-not defensive rankings that count up yards. I think he did a great job the second half and i believe will really come into his own next season.

Wow. A real intelligent, in depth analysis, just chock full of football facts. You haven't explained Mangini's failure as a DC in NE or the 26th rated defense he brought to the Jets last year. Ill put you down for the simple minded "he's not Herman Edwards' argument.

You don't respond to in-depth analysis. Because it always blows your Mickey Mouse arguments out of the water.

Edit: By the way, thanks for wearing your agenda on your sleeve this time, I feel right at home now.

05 Jets ranked 23 in points allowed 22.2 per game. O6 we ranked 6th at 18.4 pts allowed.

06 Donnie Henderson has been canned and probably will not get an interview for a DC job. O6 Mangini gets a raise from the Jets front office.
