2009 showed that Jim Leonhard has what it takes to be a starting safety in this league. That's why the Jets must make him the starting punter.
The whole idea makes no sense. Smith's value is his versatility on offense and special teams, make him a back-up QB and you limit all the other things he can bring to the team. Plus, Smith has really only made throws off of gimmick plays, a totally different thing. What we need a back-up QB for is to step in and be able to win a few games if necessary on a moment's notice, which is why veterans are better at the job. They have a wealth of experience to just jump into a game with and run the team for a while. Also, ideally to hold for place kicks in case the snap goes bad they can possibly make a play. I don't know why so many teams use a punter there instead of the back-up QB. I guess because they have time to work together in practice all week but to me you go with what's more practical in the game, not practice.
If we need another QB and Smith is not the answer , trade him to the Browns for Ratliffe and Rob Ryan
I'm fine with Ainge too. Brad does have a role on our offense AND ST's and he does a good job. I would assume that Clemens will go look for a spot where he has a chance to start, so we will still have 4"QB's" here. I wonder if Ainge can hold on FG attempts? We already know Brad has any issue catching the ball so I don't think he would be an option there...
Mr. NFL Fake news blog repooooort guy! If you take the article literally, it makes zero sense. However, if you let Brad take some practice reps with the 1st team and hone the skills with the OLine a bit more, you could have him be a bigger threat to throw in WC formations. Even come out on first down and let him throw a screen pass. I am in no way elevating smith to QB#2. Just letting him get more comfy so he can get in there and keep the opposing D on its heels a bit more.
"He can run the Wildcat to perfection. He can return kickoffs for touchdowns. He can run the football. He can pass the football. He's the most versatile and dangerous player on the Jet roster offensively." Funny that of all the things "he can" do, CATCH is not listed and he is listed as a WR. Just thought it was funny.
Sentence #2 of this blog shows exactly why he should not be a back up QB. What team is stuipd enough to trot their backup QB out to return kicks?
Nah, I'm senior blogger on my blog  Check that, I'm not a senior writer. I'm a senior analyst. I guess they changed the title system... Most BR articles deserve the crap they get. Some are good, most aren't. It's a way for people to get started in a sportswriting field. I don't know what it takes to be a senior writer. Certain amount of articles, picks of the day, reads, comments, and other stuff. It sucks that if you write something controversial, or about someone controversial, you'll get 1000x more reads. I know this because my 74 articles have been read 64,484 times, but one of the first articles I wrote, about a sport I was just getting into, got 10,000 articles, just because it was about Kimbo Slice.
