RGIII was always getting injured. He is practically made of glass. On draft day many people predicted (myself included) that Cousins would end up being the better QB. RGIII would be interesting to take a flyer on but he is never going to be more than an average QB at best. Geno going undrafted is completely asinine, he wouldn't have made it past round 4. I like Geno better than RGIII at this point.
The Bradford deal reminds me of the Flacco deal a couple years ago. It's ridiculous and will make other QB's deals get blown out of proportion. Fitz deserves around $8-10 million, maybe a 3 year, $30 million deal tops. Now I think he could and SHOULD demand more after Bradford's joke of a deal.
If RG 3 had the discipline to slide and not try to make a big play on every drive, he would not have gotten injured. Both Cousins and RG3 have done the same thing in Washington, they helped their teams get to the playoffs. I was exaggerating about Geno to make a point, he went from being considered a 1st round talent to being saved by Idzik when he was falling like a rock, even if he was selected in the 4th round, it would have sealed his future in the NFL, he would have been considered a bust. RG3 was never doubted as a good QB, if he can learn to live another play and slide so as not to get injured, he is a better QB than Geno.
^ Not knowing RGIII's current physical condition, it is nonetheless no stretch to say he sure looks more injury prone on a going forward basis than the Jets would want.
Why? Fitz is older, more brittle, has only had 2-3 good seasons in his career, doesn't have the right arm for the NE in the winter, and he's best in Gailey's system. Why should he demand and expect to get more than Bradford. Just because Jeffrey Lurie is a moron doesn't mean that other owners are.
RGIII missed an extended amount of time from this injury. He was practically untouched and he wasn't running to get yards. He was rolling out and he fucked himself up. RGIII is made of glass. And yes after his first season in the gimmick pistol offense he was heavily doubted if he would ever be that effective again. He hasn't been since. Geno may have been falling like a rock but he would have surely gotten snatched up. I believe Geno still has a spot in the league. I easily think Geno could have gone 25 TDs to 17 INTs last year minimum. He was looking to have a good season and was showing it in camp. I don't think he is done, had he achieved those numbers a lot of peoples opinions would be different. It's not great but it shows improvement and at the very least he is a capable back up QB.
Freak injuries happen to a lot of players in the NFL, it still does not take away from the fact that he is a better QB than Geno. He came back from that injury and it took him some time to get into game condition and he did play well. Then he was deactivated by Shanahan for the last 3 games because MS wanted to make sure he got completely healthy for the following season, well we know the real reason why Shanahan did it, it was to play Cousins. There was no way he was going to give RG3 the opportunity to show he was healthy and ready to resume his role as the starting QB for the redskins. However getting back to my original point, if Fitz is asking for too much money, would guys consider RG3 at a reasonable cost to be the jets QB? I know you are against it, I'm just waiting to see what the other guys think.
