Never understood why the Bills or Rex thought he was a good fit. The Bills had a top 5 passing defense and sacking front 4 in a 4-3 scheme with no offense. They tried to turn that into a super defense by hiring Rex.

The Colts are a good suggestion or the Saints once we trade for Sean Payton. :p

    Maybe San Diego too.

Schefter is reporting that they are benching Taylor only because he is due a $30 mill guarantee after the season if he gets injured. If he's not injured they can cut him and get out of that contract.

    --

Personally, I think Taylor has some nice pieces but I think he has a limited ceiling. I also think he would be a disaster on this particular Jets team because he holds onto the ball and would get killed behind this OL. I think he can have a nice career as a good backup/fringe starter in this league though, elsewhere

I could see Andy Reid making something out of him for sure. He's actually perfect for his offense.

I don't hate Rex. He seems like an awesome guy but he's not a good coach. I was sad when he left but would rather see Bowles back than to ever have him here again. He hasn't learned a thing, his teams still do the same silly shit they did when he was here. That being said I wouldn't be shocked at all if Woody decided to at least consider bringing him back.

If we got ourselves an offensive coach like Kyle Shannahan, Rex would be a great candidate for defensive coordinator. My biggest problem with Rex was that he hogged all of the high draft picks for his defense.

Rex was and is a DC only. Just like his father he was a bombastic blowhard who believed his own BS.
He was and is a terrible HC.

As another poster said good riddance, he was a clown but a smart one because he bilked the Jets and Bills for millions.

I want no part of Rex or Bowles. Give a try to get the Raider OC or the Patriot OC. I'm not worried about they have no head coaching experience. They both came up under good head coaches which should give them some knowledge and it's about time we get an Offensive HC.

I liked that for the part about the draft choices. I want nothing to do with him back in NY, for any reason under any conditions.

When has an offensive coach EVER worked well with Rex Ryan? Not a chance in hell I would bring Rex in here. You want Rex punching Shanahan in his face for running a high tempo offense?

Plus Ajayi how many rushing yards did he have on the Bills? Rex's defensive genius is name reputation only at this stage. He's a crappy defensive coach now too.

Yup, took a couple of years but the league solved his blitz scheme and he hasn't adjusted yet.

What's up with this firing coaches before the season ends? There is no possible way in which firing Rex today makes any difference compared to firing him next Monday. But yet _three_ coaches from bottom-feeder teams have gotten the boot before the season ends. Is everybody trying to chase Gruden or something as asinine?

Rex and Gruden would be some must-see TV for awhile if they didn't clash. Have Rex do color and let Gruden be the analyst and their opposing starting points (defense and offense) might turn into some magical stuff.

he'll be fine. I don't see him working on TV though because he can struggle putting together coherent sentences. I get the feeling if he is to stay in Football it'll be as a defensive coach and the first that will hire him if needed will be the Ravens.

I disagree big time. I think Rex would be awesome on TV as a color commentator.

Plenty of beloved color guys struggle putting together coherent sentences. John Madden is perhaps the most famous of color guy of all time and he would go whole quarters of games spitting out a bunch of incoherent nonsense. Rex would be this generation's John Madden. He also has that Oklahoma twang in his voice that is perfect for television commentary.

I imagine if and when he gets hired by ESPN, that ought'a cover his Bills tattoo nicely. I just hope for his sake his wife doesn't ever divorce him. He'll need to a rhino-size fat chick to cover that one.

That's part of the equation but the other part is that Rex needs 2 excellent press man CB's plus 2 safeties that can both be up in the box or in centerfield plus nickel and dime backs that can disguise a corner blitz well and actually get to the QB before he gets rid of the ball.

That's a metric crap-ton of value that you need to have in the defensive secondary to make things work right. Nobody else requires that much dedicated back end support and cap value. Most teams live with one good CB and one average CB and can actually find and make use of a good edge-rushing LB. Rex just can't for whatever reason.

Al Davis bred fast-talking coaches with a quirky sense of humor. Must have had survival value when AL was down on you and in your face.
