Crazy talk, really. He's a very very bright kid--not fake bright like Geno was made out to be. There are going to be plenty of guys who haven't been asked to do things in college that can learn and will someday excel at those things at the pro level.

Mariota is the guy I'm betting on.

Passing on him because he wasn't asked to do certain things (as opposed to not being able to do those things) is crazy talk.

He wrote poems, he painted pictures, he enjoyed music, he was an intellectual often going off by himself for long stretches to contemplate life, love, philosophy.

The dude looks like he as Asperger's Syndrome.

If a standout QB is there...we take him regardless of what other player is there....this franchise needs a QB to build around.

Oregon's mission is to win as many games as possible, compete for and win a National Championship.

NOT to prepare it's QBs for the NFL.

Does anyopne have any doubt the guy could run any offense asked of him?

That he runs the spread at such an elite level I guess is a huge knock on him. The guy can throw the ball downfield and it looks like he's simply handing it off to guys.

    I'd rather have Winston.

While it's hard to be definitive and say he will be a bust, I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want Winston. He has bust written all over him. I think Mariota has potential to be like Kapernik, but better.
Realistically the Jets will take the sure bust (or make him a bust) and the other QB will have an above average 10+ year run as a starter at worst.

Why exactly does Winston, an undefeated passing skilled, agile, versatile QB, A WINNER, have bust written all over him?

I disagree so much. Winston is a jackass but he sure is talented on the field. Nothing about his play suggests bust potential. And say what you want about him off-the-field: he sure has exhibited the ability to block all that negativity and attention out on game day. That's going to be crucial for any NY QB.

The way he plays reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger only with an even higher ceiling. Ironically, Roethlisberger is a POS off the field as well but that hasn't mattered. It doesn't matter as long as a guy can stay out of jail and win on sundays. Winston ought to at the very least be able to do the 1st and I think he can do the second as well.

Mariota will be one of the best nfl QBs in this generation.

He has all the tools and intellect to be a top 10 QB in the nfl for a decade!

People that are weary of him because he is mild mannered better start taking up a new hobby.

If you want Winston on this team you're an idiot he's an arrest waiting to happen and he's so stupid he makes Geno look like a Rhodes scholar. He is to Leaf what Mariota is to Manning. I'm done watching the Jets if we draft the dumpster fire that is Jameis Winston

Trade out of the first round to acquire mega picks.
Draft to fill as many non-qb needs.
    Make Matt Simms the starter.

The fact that I have to answer this question signifies that you do not follow the man but more or less the legend. Jameis Winston has had no less than 3 confirmed "major" issues in my book. He is confirmed to be extremely immature and, from the sound of it, doesn't take advice or direction all that well. (I don't know about you but if Bo Jackson comes calling with advice...I'd be listening)

You can be a bust on the field...you can also be a bust by never getting to SEE the field. I'm sorry, but it's high time the fuckin' talent does not eclipse the character. This idiot has the world by the balls yet chooses to steal, subjugate women etc...etc... Yeah...just the fine ray of sunshine I want on my team...NOT! I don't care if JW is the second coming of Peyton Manning ON the field if he is an idiot OFF the field. Especially in today's climate where the NFL is under an ELECTRON microscope right now. I say pass... If you are going to flush our 1st round pick down the shitter you might as well draft a god damn Tackle/Guard/Center for the o-line.

IMO none of these QBs are worthy of a high first round pick. The jets are in a situation where they absolutely cannot afford to whiff on another first rounder. They just can't. I say go with BPA from the following positions-CB, WR, OL.

I'm an avid FSU fan and have been for several years. I watch Jameis very carefully.
He doesnt need me to defend him or his character but the only thing Jameis has ever been CONVICTED of his shoplifting which is a jackass move I agree, but his college life antics such as what he said in the student section is a move from a kid who wasn't even half way to his 21st birthday. That doesnt excuse everything he's done but it needs to be considered.

Jameis has next level talent, more than any other QB in this draft, and to let some crab legs and a college kid moment stop us from drafting him and letting another team benefit from talent is foolish.

Or we can continue taking goes who you barely ever hear of until their senior year or the draft aka Sanchez/Geno.

Winston is the exact opposite of everything I'd want in my QB. Arrogant, troublemaker, seems to be very stubborn and stupid, two things that are a very bad combination
