I'm going to keep my expectations low, but a road win against Andrew Luck and making him poo his panties in the process has me believing in the defense. The DL is insanely good and going back home to face an Eagles team that looked awful makes me believe we can get another W next week. But to be honest I am just enjoying being 2-0 and will take it a game at a time
That's just about how I feel. This years Colts aren't the Colts from the last couple of years but it's still Andrew Luck. This was a game the Jets would have blown under Rex. The defense looks special but it's still early. The Eagles won't look as bad as they have the first two weeks and the game won't be a walk in the park but I say the Jets win by a touchdown.
I don't know why on every sports page it reads "Jets shock/surprise the Colts". Didn't anyone see Colts play last week? They are not very good, is a nice way of saying it. They can't guard anyone in the passing game, especially after Davis went out. I was surprised when they didn't let Fitzy throw more. I know he's turnover prone but Tebow could've made those throws today. WR's were wide open for the majority of the game. Took a glance at the Jets schedule and with the injuries to some teams and lackluster play by others, I will be shocked if the Jets win less than 11 games this year. Their schedule is incredibly soft outside of a few road games. Especially if Miami doesn't improve fast Jets have a good chance to make the playoffs. Not sold on Buffalo even though they also have a great defense, although they did look even better against the Colts but that was at home. Pats kind of took the wind out of their sails. Small possibility but Pats vs Jets could be a matchup of two undefeated teams. Win two home games and beat the Dolphins on the road and that's it, if the Pats stay undefeated as well. Dallas game even with the injuries could be tough on the road. However I don't see anyway the Pats scoring under 40 against the Colts. That game is personal and they will run it up. 50-burger wouldn't shock me at all. On that note: Pats 2-0, Colts 0-2 and Ravens 0-2. And some people don't believe in karma.
Im fairly happy with Fitz. His reading of the defence, his short routes, slants and screens are all good. Its just his long throws are a bit wild. We really should have scored more but I Think that was down to Gailey trying not to get into a shoot out. On Defence though I was worried we did not get that close to a sack. We got a lot of pressure but Luck always got it away or riggled out of it. The one sack we did get got turned into a penatly. But its a good team to watch on both sides of the ball. ITs going to be an interesting season either way.
When teams play well they tend to get "lucky" sometimes. I'm not disagreeing with you at all but you make your own "luck" sometimes, if you know what I mean. I passed out due to 2 shots of Nyquil so I never got to see the 2nd half but the D-line, which was supposed to be the clear strength of this team had me concerned. Run D was ATTROCIOUS in the 1st half, not sure if we picked it up after I started my drool puddle. It's incredible what a disciplined team with smart coaches can do.
Have to have faith in Gailey that he will adapt before defenses do and throw a few different wrinkles in there to make up for it. Hopefully guys like Marshall and Owusu can take some intermediate routes and turn them into long gainers.
they are sending a lot of opponents to the sidelines as well. the Colts threw their troops into the breach and stopped the run as best they could for a while. They left the middle open for Decker. If Decker had not gone down I think the Jets would have been less conservative. I was thrilled with their play. They do hit. And they go after the ball in the ball carriers hands. Something RRs boys just did not do----for whatever reason.
To me, it looked like the offense still isn't comfortable with themselves. We have a lot of new jerseys out there not having played together for long or in this new offense. It looked like they were trying to play mistake free and did for the most part. Good solid football. I wasn't expecting a lot from this team in year one, at least the first 5-6 games. Sitting at 2-0 is encouraging for the future. The CS has done a lot in a short time getting the defense to play together. The offense still needs work, but they're doing enough to win games, I expect they will get better each week.
Rex never had this much talent on the defensive side of the ball, certainly not after Kris Jenkins went down in 2009 and then again in 2010. The Jet's defense is just so stacked from top to bottom right now. If you think about it the guys Rex had were fighters also but with the exception of Darrelle Revis, Shaun Ellis, Kris Jenkins and David Harris they weren't great players. There's a big difference between lining up the front seven the Jets had back then and the guys they have now. It's going to get even more insane when Richardson comes back with something to prove to a unit that is already dominating.
Can someone who knows more about football explain to me our run defense? It looks like we get such good penetration up the middle with our 3 big guys that is leaves us vulnerable to runs outside. Every play the Colts tried to run in the middle it seemed like we crushed them. Go outside and bam 8-10 yards. How do we fix that or was I not seeing it?
If a fanbase can somehow take on the personality of its coach like the players do, I don't think you'll see the bipolar responses we've gotten so used to with Rex. Our new Coach Cool just doesn't shake or rattle but simply rolls with the flows of the game. Nowadays, the Jets do the same. Fanbase to follow his lead.. Book it!
It's more about the play call then the players, but generally in a 3-4 defense the ends (williams and wilkerson) need to set the edge so the OLBs (coples and pace) can get upfield and make the tackle. It was either the way the play was called, or pace/coples being out of position
