#2 seed is more than acceptable, but ever since Denver in '98, I have been quietly pettitioning the Heavens for a shot at home field for the AFC championship game. What a nut-house the Meadowlands would be!
Yeah, I guess some of you have personal agendas that I don't (a chance to go to the game), I can understand how you might be more pumped about the#1. I just really, really would hate to see Steelers hang onto the #2. If they beat the Titans you gotta figure they probably win a lot of their other games too.
It's not even that I'm a season ticket holder, that game will be a nail-biter no matter where it's played. It's just that home field is a BIG weapon in the playoffs in the NFL. Wild Card entries in the SB are the exception, not the rule.
There is a lot of evidence that the home team winning more often in the playoffs has a lot more to do with the fact that, in 2 of every 5 playoff games, the home team is the also the #1/#2 seed coming off a bye week in the divisional round. That plus a better record tending more often than not to correlate to a better team. That's why I'm saying #2 (bye) is so important. People have actually run stats on this, for example here
The 2008 steelers are playing like the 2000 Ravens.....their defense is winning them close games. The way Ben-Ro is getting his ass handed to him by opposing defenses, I'm really surprised that their record is 8-3....it's a total testament to the way the Steeler defense is playing.
For what it's worth- Cris Collinsworth just declared us the best team in the AFC, and said he thinks Jenkins is front runner for DPOY, and a clear cut MVP candidate... I think he's a douchebag, but it was nice to hear....
excellent point. That is their biggest weakness, by far. Also, Rothlesburger isn't playing very well this season. I'm not particulary scared of running into the steelers in the playoffs, particularly if we get them at home. (something I think is quite possible as I have a feeling we will be the 2 seed and they will be the 3.)
I think if you go by record, the Jets have to be the best team, with the Steelers a close second (because the Jets beat the Titans who beat the Steelers). But, it's pretty close between the Jets, Titans, and STeelers I would have to say. I think the Titans are still a pretty good team, even if we killed them today.
A) uhm, when exactly did the Titans beat the Steelers????? B) That logic never works in sports. Particularly, in a game of MATCHUPS (player vs player and scheme vs. scheme) like football.
Whoa. Brain fart moment there. I was thinking Jaguars for some reason. Sorry bout that. Yeah, I agree. I don't go by just record, or that sort of thing. I'm more afraid of the Pats then anybody else now.
