Well, the reason for your take on the situation is clearly because you are a Pats fan.

When Parcells was hired here, it was on the condition that when he retired, Belichek was to automatically inherit the head coaching position. BB came in here knowing full well the job was his in just a few years.

So yeah, he was the head coach of the NY Jets when he walked out. He didn't leave for a promotion. He left because Kraft found something to entice him.

Is that also the reason that he can't shake the hand of his former DC after a game? Belichick is a dick. Period. I hope that after the Jets shock them in Foxboro again, Mangini refuses to shake Belichick's paw. Personnally, I would stick out another member for him to hold. Bill Belichick..."The Family Values Coach"!

Parcells "retired" and the automatic HC promotion kicked in AFTER the Jets received a fax from the Pats requesting they be given access to him.

Even if we allow for the conspiracy theory that he was only given the promotion after the Pats asked for permission, it does not change one simple fact.

When Belli came here with Parcells, he did so under the condition that he would be the head coach of the New York Jets the day Bill Parcells retired.

He walked out on a gentleman's handshake deal. Period. Only a total dirtbag does that.

(Not that I am complaining. I said from the day Parcells came in that I never wanted BB here, especially as a head coach. There's no denying his success, but he's a total prick.)

Is a book really needed to inform people that Beliqueer's an ass and hates the Jets? Do more poor trees have to die in order to print that crap?

BB did give Mangins some props this week

    From the Globe:
"We're back in the AFC East for our biggest challenge of the year," Belichick said. "Eric Mangini, his staff, and entire team are doing a phenomenal job. The Jets are playing extremely well, as we are well aware based on the last time we faced them."

id love to know what his reasons behind his hating the organization are. all they did was give him job security (before the super bowls) and a fat contract with HC status. those bastards!!! F BB....hes a bitch.

Who cares if he's a prick. If I wanted Father Knows Best for a football coach, I'd hire Jim Mora Sr.

Flying Elvis, I understand where you are coming from with this argument, but there are two key things that make Belichick's actions impossible (for me) to defend.

    1. He had it negotiated into his contract that he'd be the next Jets HC.
    2. A year earlier he took $1 million from a dying Leon Hess to stay around. To do what he did after Leon died was a slap in the face.

nobody cares that hes a prick, hes always been a grumpy shitheel....but he had no real reason to despise the organization as far as most here are aware of.

You make a valid point, but this is football... motivation is motivation... the way I look at it is you want to loathe your opponent... if you're playing someone you really have no feelings for one way or the other the game is less fun... Beliqueer is great fodder

Well said. From the Jets POV, what Belichick did was take a whole lot of money to stay around as the DC for one more season with the condition that he would be HC in a year, and then got bitter for not getting the chance to move to a different team even though he agreed not to.

FE, don't you know that handshakes are more important than football? They are the most important things in life. Not only do you need to shake hands (which they did) but you hae to pull a Hallmark, and show how much you care, and really embrace at the 50.

Football is for losers, real fans want to watch 1 hour handshakes/hugs.

    Sheesh. j/k

.. but seriously, who cares about their personal relationship. Boo-hoo, they don't care for each other. It's a game, they'll get over it. Life goes on.

We should all be excited for the game!! I can't wait. Should be some tough nosed football!!!

If nothing else, the whole rivalry is great. It has gotten better now that we have Mangini. Great for football in general.

I guess that is the point. Until we all know the facts, I'll reserve judgment on it. Sure, I can take any side and make comments, but it is all based on speculation.

It's on subjects like this that I miss the Globe's Will McDonough. He would come out with a great in-depth column getting to the bottom of these types of stories. Too bad he passed away before he could write it. His Kraft/Parcells piece was amazing.

I'm sure if we could get all the facts, like most every situation, both sides were right and wrong.

how was Belichik prevented from becoming the Pats coach? he became the Pats coach that season. the only thing the Jets did was demand compensation for it. but preventing it and demanding compensation for it aren't even remotely similar situations. only a "victim" could confuse the two, anyone with any sense of rational can tell the difference.
it wasn't even a gentlemens handshake, it was a contractual agreement.

Belichik was the dirtbag in this situation and all the Patriots reinvisioning of the situation can't change that fact.

For me I need to hate my opponent... It makes the game more intense for me... Beli is great motivation for that... In the grand scheme I could really care less if he's a prick or not in real life... but for football it's great fuel
