That's a good read, and I agree, the Jets are on their way up.... It may take a few years, but I think the Jets are on the right course with the new HC, and new players being shuffled into the system. The Jets had good, smart draft, and didn't reach for much. It was imperative that the Jets OL be re-stocked, and getting Brick / Mangold in the first two rounds was big.... I think 2008 will be the year we see the Jets make a run in the East. Until then I expect steady, yearly improvement on both sides of the ball....
Just watching Lott during the draft coverage on NFL Network made me want to hit the gym. I can't believe some of our guys couldn't be more notivated by that guy. In regards to the rest of the article, it's really easy to not get penalized when you play so far off of the ball on defense. Our defense seemed more reactive as opposed to being aggressive.
Damn, for once I agree with you. I see us going 6-10 this year, however improvement and hard wok is what I wanna see. And also let the best players play, something we have never seen before. Our o-line wont light the world on fire this year since there will probably be 2 rookies starting however down the road it should pan out for us. IMO, the Jets and Dolphins in 2-3 years will be the main teams in the division. The Pats are a little on the downside with age and stuff(I will still never overlook them) and the Bills are the Bills. So really Im not looking at wins/losses and determining whether it was a success, Im just looking for other intangibles.
everyone is equating discipline to penalties. while they play a part in that its much larger, as someone already said clock management and off and in season workouts. things like missed blocking assignments, all around laziness. defenders not doing what they are supposed to and getting out of position. all of those things combined i really feel will be much better in the next couple of years. ive definitely got my green colored glasses on at this point and like what i am seeing.
The only thing id like to point out about this is that Ty Law always had those penalties. The rule was created because of him. It was called "The Ty Law Rule." Bill Bellichik couldnt help Law with this, so im certainly not going to blame this on Herm. One thing his teams were not were undisciplined. Those penalty numbers are very impressive. You dont win games if you commit too many penalties-of course Herm did so many other things wrong that it didnt matter most of the time-but i have to give Herm credit for making his team disciplined
