Sanchez extension: Expensive price to pay for make-up sex. The guy is coming off an 8-8 campaign. We have a brand new offensive system. Until we get a real GM, the organization will continue to be a complete joke.
This was a cap move. We aren't getting Manning and we probably can't get Flynn. Sanchez is the QB it makes sense to free up some cap money to improve the team in areas we actually can improve it not at an area where we simply don't have any real options.
Correct! We will give Sanchez his chance with a new OC and system and hopefully we will improve the OL and give him more time. If he still can't produce when we have the right players to protect him then we really need to start to worry. I've never been the biggest Sanchez fan but we need to give him a chance with a decent OL. If we really do go ground 'n' pound he won't need to do that much, just manage the game. If he can't do that he will be a bust!
This offseason is going to be much bigger than we think, especially if Cro and Holmes will restructure. I don't know how Tanny is going to pull this thing off though. We need to make a big splash to make sure people realize we are still alive and kicking. Mario Williams and Braylon Edwards. Grab Mark Barron from trading Down and maybe an Osemele? This offseason has great potential. What OLB wouldn't want to work with Rex? LET'S GO!!!!!!!
The only player I'd be ok with in terms of giving away big money is Carl Nicks. Ferguson - Nicks - Mangold and Sanchez would never have to worry about his blindside... unfortunately I don't think it will happen.
As posted previously it was clear that the Jets had deals in place to free up cap space if required so I agree i think that this indicates that they intend to be players in this years FA, which makes sense as this is not an ancient but it is certainly not a young squad and given the core 4 its probably set for the next 3-4 years to be competitive but after that it will probably be rebuilding mode (unless Sanchez turns out to be top 10).
Ferguson Nicks Mangold DeCastro not bad! never happen though. we wouldn't draft decastro if we signed nicks. moore and slauson are very capable and still under contract.
and a good cover safety. Fixing the line is a must however, and should be priority, as much as I love that move. Hopefully they'll restructure more! We have to be at like 15 million or so under the cap now, right? Yeah I'm excited!
We have absolutley zero pass rush. Cool, let's go all in on receiving options when we don't even have a quarterback who can get them the ball.
Didnt the Jets already say they arent pursuing Williams? Hopefully we could get Courtney Upshaw in the draft.
I'm thinking at this point that the cap still is not going to allow for a deal like Nicks is going to command. We probably have about 13-15 million in space including the Sanchez restructure and the carryover from 2011. This assuming the 2012 cap comes in at $120 million or so. We probably need 5 million or so for the rookies. That leaves 8-10 million for free agents. Nicks alone is going be in that vicinity.
That's what I think to, but never doubt Tanny and that cap. Remember that Holmes only had a 1.5 million dollar cap hit last year? Obviously it backfired this season when he had a high cap hit, but we got him very cheap when we were limited on cap space. Also, I would like to take this time to remind all the opposing fans who come here who said Sanchez would never extend with us or that there is no way the Jets find cap space. One thing is always certain, Tanny will find ways to take advantage of the cap, always. Will he make the right decisions, that is still left to be seen, but he always finds money.
I love the idea of getting Nicks but I'm really against moving Slauson to a back up role. He has been a leader for a team that is lacking them. He publicly backed Hunter and Sanchez, and while I agree they needed to hear some negativity for some below average play a leader should back his team mates. Slauson improved from his first year to his second year and I expect him to continue to progress. Honestly IDK if he can play RT, while it'd be great I don't think he has the agility to play outside. If Nicks were to come to the Jets I think Moore will be cut and Slauson will be moved to RG. If Moore were cut it'd save 3 M, plus he's a much better fit for a zone blocking scheme and not a man f u up scheme which sporano wants to run. Sad but true.
If my numbers are right, we have 22.5 Million to spend as of now. 7.7 was free. 8.4 is being carried over from last year. Sanchez freed up 6.4 more today. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary12.html That site hasnt been updated for Sanchez's new deal I dont think.
definitely. there is no reason to shoot down fa possibilities due to the cap when we have a guy like tannenbaum doing what he does best. people on here get jumped on by fantasy gm salary cap crusaders way too often. the fact is none of us see the numbers the way tanny does. if the jets feel like carl nicks is the missing piece to get us to a super bowl, i have no doubt that tannenbaum would somehow make that money appear.
Interesting. I'm curious as to what he'll spend those resources on. A high priced FA or several medium FA's and just try to fill in all the holes. The second one seems more rational but the thought of Mario on this team sounds enticing.
I'd love to snag Nicks at LG and move Slauson to RT or sign Mario. The biggest problem on the D is the lack of a pass rush. Mario Williams instantly makes our secondary that much better. Who knows, it could even help that glaring hole at Safety.
