well, it was fun while it lasted. beats them sucking for the entire season I suppose. but they've been shit since interleague play ended.
And now Reyes reinjured himself. He won't play in the All-Star Game, and want to bet he won't be able to play for a while afterwards, either? Once again the morons who lead the Mets have killed them, and I include Wilpon right on down.
The big problem with Reyes is that he is only going to miss more time to injury down the line. He's not going to become healthier. I welcome a trade of Reyes. Tejada could be the SS in August and September. Then the fall could be the time to buy a couple free agents and sort out some stuff.
Everyone else in the world also knows that he is injury-prone, so people won't be lining up to get him. I think the last thing we should root for is for the idiot Minaya to be the guy handling the trade of their most potentially valuable trading chip. Having said that, I've seen nothing so far to suggest that Tejada is a major league shortstop, so trading Reyes would mean more crucial work for the GM. As long as it is Minaya, the Mets have no chance.
I've seen enough to convince me Tejada can play SS. I like Reyes a lot, but these constant injuries are very concerning chiefly because it will only get worse.
we are in no position to trade reyes even with the injuries. Wed need a whole new team before we can start winning without him. Our record when he scores a run is impeccable.
maybe someone mentioned this, but why not start beltran a couple games before the all-star break to put him back in stride? He gets his feet wet again and has a few days to get accustomed and rest. By the way Beltran is the biggest primadonna pussy on this team, i dont care how good he is I cant wait til his contract expires, the guy has no fire beneath him, a chronic problem with this team.
Well, I can't imagine what that could be. The .213 batting average? The .298 OBP? The .258 slugging percentage? The .976 fielding percentage at second base when the league average is .984? The 4.15 range factor at second base when the league average is 4.82? As far as I can see, the biggest thing he has going for him at being a major league shortstop is that he hasn't done it (only 8 games started there), so he hasn't had a chance to exhibit the failure there that he clearly has at the plate and at second base. Add to that his awful minor league power numbers at levels above A (A - .296, AA - .381, AAA - .359), and I see nothing to suggest that he is anything but another (maybe) good field/no hit middle infielder, which come a dime a dozen.
Another brilliant example of making an argument based on the outcome. How about recognizing this so-called problem when it is happening and doing something about it, Jerry?
I don't think he's going to be a dynamic player like Reyes. I do think Tejada can develop into a 7 homer, 50 RBI, .260 hitter and a good fielder. He's supposedly only 20. It stands to reason he'll only get better. I would prefer he play 2B, though, and that would be the case once Castillo is gone for good and if Reyes remains with the team or is moved and another good SS is brought aboard.
With One Third and Delgado now gone, I guess you could argue that Beltran is the biggest primadonna pussy on the team. I would argue that Reyes is. Beltran is a quiet guy who doesn't smile often and looks like he's not trying too hard. He's like the Hispanic Kevin McReynolds. McReynolds was 3rd in the MVP voting in 1988 and had 2 home runs with the Mets that postseason. He had a .900 OPS in 46 career postseason plate appearances. Aside from the Game 7 NLCS strikeout vs StL, Beltran has been great in the postseason. I think that McReynolds and Beltran were/are better than most Mets fan give them credit for, but get smacked around because they didn't show exuberance and were not home grown players. (I'm amazed at how fans are so darn clingy to home grown players.) Wake me when Reyes stops with the dancing and crappy end of season performances. Maybe a little more seriousness from Reyes is what is needed.
No! Say it isn't so! Bob Sheppard died.
nice job on Bob Sheppard who is a staple of New York baseball, and more importantly by all accounts was a good guy. Stay classy cakes. I'm not a Mets fan but I love what Johan is doing. All year he's heard shit that he's been surpassed by Pelfrey and isn't a true ace anymore. Remember folks this is a second half pitcher that closed out the first half in a straight dominating fashion.
Yeah, because I put that Cox song in every thread when someone dies. I thought it was clear that I was swayed by IATA's wording which was pretty close to what was said in the hook of the song. Furthermore, one never knows what IATA is going for. Thought it was very odd he wrote that here as opposed to the Sheppard thread.
