Yes it would have. When Maye broke up the endzone pass with that fantastic left handed play to win the Pittsburgh game Gase was probably thinking "I'm glad my stupid trade deal never happened"!
its gotta be a personality issue with Maye. Maybe he bitches at practice or something. We don't know, we aren't there, but I'm guessing something like that is up if they want to trade him
I think Maxim nailed it....JD will keep Marcus on the roster for this season (he's cheap) to allow Ashtyn Davis a season to develop plus give Gregg Williams a great piece to have in his gameday equations. It should be fun and entertaining for our top rated Defense. Then let Marcus walk for a comp pick. Or tag and trade. Our focus has been on Defense the last 5 years (Wilkerson, Sheldon, Quinnen, Lee, Adams, etc) so Defense got most of our cap. But with the focus turning to offense and with a FQB on the roster, I think Offense will start demanding more and more of our cap. Which means some of our good D players like Maye might be on the way out. Wouldn't be shocked to see Jamal play out his 5th year and get a 2nd round comp, rather than scrape up $17m/yr on top of Sam's soon-2-be $40+m/yr. Just the way it goes....look at what happened to Seattle. They won the ring with rookies but the moment they had to pay Wilson the team fell apart. Beast Mode and the Legion of Boom were really fun (while it lasted!). Which reminds me...we need a great nickname for Gregg's Defense THIS YEAR before it's too late!!! GO!
Regarding Hookers option being declined, this likely wont help Maye in FA. You know, the law of supply and demand. Hooker has an injury history as well but coming out was being compared to Ed Reed in terms of ballhawk skills. He does have 7 interceptions in only a year and a half of games (21 total). lots of good S in that 17 draft Adams Hooker Peppers Baker Maye Eddie Jackson in the 4th
Indeed, one of the best safety classes we will probably ever see talent wise. This definitely will impact Maye's stock should he go into FA. Would love a 1 year prove it deal with Hooker, but wishful thinking at best.
He's had durability concerns, I would be surprised if that's his asking price, but the man does not get beat deep thats for sure.

I hate the salary cap. Having two good safeties in a passing league is a nice luxury. Now we are gonna be on the lookout for another one soon.
I also like the 3 safety concept plus our DC can get really creative with them. Is Davis in the box or is it Maye? Who dropping into coverage? So many schemes he can run. It could be really fun to watch.
I would love to see Maye attack the intermediate parts of the field while Davis attacks the deep range. Allows Maye to be a little more of a play-maker and Adams as well.
Adams can also pick up the TE or a 4th WR in the offensive package they will be facing. It’s about matchups, Jabari and Phillips attacking from weak side, Q up the middle and Henry and Jenkins on strong side. I can already see the turnovers this team will be creating on defense.
