Also Mendenhall fumbled several times in the preseason. In fact he had to carry a ball around with him everywhere he went to remind him to hang on to it better. Obviously that didn't endear him to the coaching staff. And with Parker playing like a stud, he might not see the field for a while.
I have full confidence that Chris Long will turn into a very good player. He's too driven not to. A position switch and playing on that God-awful team will knock anyone's stats down. And it's still just the beginning of the season.
Chris Long did NOT play 3-4 OLB in college. He is a prototypical 4-3 DE. And he's a warrior...im sure hell be fine. But if i were to go back to Aprial i would select...Vernon Gholston.
no trade up for Keller, trade up 2 spots in the 5th, trade up 4 spots in the 6th, (no 7th round pick and no 09 6th round pick) 1) Jerod Mayo, ILB 2) Eddie Royal, WR 4) Dwight Lowery, CB 5) Marcus Howard, OLB 6) Durant Brooks, P ILB, OLB, WR, CB, and P needs covered. 09 draft needs: QB, DE, FS, RG?, TE?
as of today i would have picked vernon gholston dustin keller dwight lowery marcus henry and nate garner...its the SECOND WEEK
he should just take the part that kris jenkins has to stay under 400 pounds off his contract and bring jamarcus russell in
I would have gone Punter/Place kicker with our first two picks. They fill the biggest holes on the team.
Given the scenario the Jets had they either take Vernon Gholston or trade down, and if no trade down was available then they just take Gholston. It was like D'Brick on the 4 in 2006: no other choice unless somebody gave them a really good deal to swap out of the spot.
its tough to say I would think someone on offense I might go with a Desean Jackson, Id still stick with Keller as well
Joe Flacco would have been the pick with us trading down five or so picks and getting another 2nd rounder. But no, we draft yet another tweener who is nothing more than a workout warrior. If we draft Flacco it would have excited the team and we would not need Brett and his 12M paycheck. I like Brett and glad he is a Jet, but realisticly he is only a one year deal. There is no QB of Flacco's caliber in the 2009 draft.
What do you mean they had to either take Gholston or trade down? I mean, was there a gun to their head or something? How about drafting a good player? Was that too much to ask? (Note: I was never a fan of Gholston and was disgusted with the draft selection of him.)
Gholston was the best remaining player on the board when the Jets selected at 6. He was a high risk/high reward prospect but there's no question that he was prospect #6 in that draft. Given that he was also a front 7 player the Jets really didn't have a choice there. If they take one of the CB's, which was the only other option in my opinion, then they have yet again used a high pick somewher where it really isn't going to be that impactful. I like Darrelle Revis, that said the Jets are now 5-13 since they drafted him at the cost of a 1st and a 2nd last year. You can't get around the fact that the Jet's mistaken prioritization of the defensive backfield in last year's draft was then followed by a major slide as the trenches went under-manned.
2x. I'd still pick Gholston. It's 2 games, and he is playing a brand new position...It isn't exactly easy to just plug in a 21 year old and say "go"...That can work from HS to College...But we all know the transition it takes to get to the next level.
