As a realist, I'm unsure were we stand and our future

Its not because you think he is no good, but say he has shown nothing to this point.

He was very good at the end of the ravens game, giving the team a chance to win but for a couple of dropped, easily catchable passes.

He was only OK in Pittsburg, but again good in the final minuets of the game and not only gave us a chance, but actually beat a top team in the NFL.

He was good against the Phins, but I'm not counting that for much. You should be good against that team.

He has shown flashes of big play ability, a strong arm, and the skills to make plays to win games. He has also been inconsistent, inaccurate at times, and needs to get rid of the ball when protection breaks down quicker.

I think he has the tools to be our QB of the future, but he needs alot of work ATM. Just like every other QB in his draft class right now. None of them are complete QBs, why should we expect Kellen to be any different?

Jones has done little to impress. He is going to amass alot of yards over the season, but at a below respectible average per carry. He is a 3.7 YPC so far to go with a grand total of 1 TD. He's had a few good games and several dismal ones. (the 2.4 per carry in big D, 3.1 vs the hapless Phins)

I don't blame him, but our poor O-line play. We get no push at all. In goal line situations we are blown off the ball so badly is sick. This is not a good O-line and it affects every ohter aspect of our offense.

I agree that with a good O-line we will have a much better running game as well as with the passing attack. Thats only if we actually do anything about it this offseason.

Does anyone see any difference between Brooks Bollinger and Clemens? I certainly don't.

Yes.. Clemens has poise and when he shifts his weight to his front foot and displays proper footwork he throws a beautiful ball and looks like the QB we all want him to be.

Bollinger had no talent to begin with.

    At least someone gets it..

Try going back and watching the tape in slow mo....the guard play is hideous...

However, that having been said, Jones far too often runs up next to the guard (particularly near the goalline) when Baker has pushed his man off and back opening the off tackle hole...

Realistically speaking this is how I view the Jets right now. I'm listing players who are good as "+", players who are acceptable as "s" and players who are unacceptable as "-". As an example: the notation for Clemens means 33% chance to be good, 33% chance to be acceptable and 33% chance to be unacceptable.

    Offense:

SE - Laveranues Coles "s" for age and injuries.
    LT - D'Brick 25% "+", 50% "s", 25% "-"
    LG - Hole
    C - Nick Mangold "+"
    RG - Moore "-"
    RT - Hole
    TE - Baker "s"
    FL - Cotchery "+"
    HB - Jones "s"
    HB - Washington 50% "+", 50% "s"
    FB - Hole
    QB - Clemens 33% "+", 33% "s", 33% "-"

    K - Nugent 50% "+", 50% "s"
P - Graham "s" for age and performance issues

    Defense:

    LCB - Revis "+"
    LOLB - Thomas "s"
    FS - Rhodes "+"
    LDE - Ellis "s"
LILB - Barton "s" aging fast though
NT - D-Rob "-" might be acceptable at DE but might not also
    RILB - Harris "+"
RDE - Coleman "-" would be acceptable as a rotation guy to give people a breather
    SS - Elam 50% "s", 50% "-"
    ROLB - Hobson "-"
    RCB - Dyson "s"

The Jets basically need to largely rebuild their offensive line and defensive front sevens and hope the + guys do not get hurt in the interim. A wide receiver and CB will also need to be replaced when the hard part of the rebuild is complete.

And of course Kellen Clemens is an open book at this point and we have no idea what chapter he will wind up on before he is done.

I make the Jets out to be a legitimate 4th place contender at this point, with the Dolphins likely sparing them the shame of actually finishing in 4th place anytime soon.

Average number of wins expected over the next 3 seasons: About 6 per season.

He seems to be the type of runner who goes exactly where the play is called for, no matter how good or bad the blocking at that point may be. I often wonder if he can not see the opening on the other side of the line, does not have the speed to bounce outside or is just doing as told.

I would love to watch him run behind a real offenisve line.

Not a bad view of things, but I think if, and its a big one, we patch up the gaping holes in our O-line this can be better than a 6 win team.

Bryan Thomas may as well be listed as a "hole" player IMO. He has done nothing this year.

I agree abot Kellen. He can look very good at times and lost at others. Fixing the O-line, which fixes the running game, takes alot of the pressure off him.

All in all I thought we were a .500 team coming into this year, and are much worse going out. If we drafted nothing but Offensive Line and Defensive front 7 for the next 2 years I would not complain.

I'm completely unsure of where we stand for the future. On one hand, I see a team that has lost a lot of close games and is not as bad as its record. With guys like Mangold and Brick, I see the beginning of the foundation of a pretty good line. We have two runningbacks who can play in the NFL, though neither one is a gamebreaker. If Clemens can play, we have a good quarterback. We have two very solid high #2 receivers, though neither one is a gamebreaker.

On defense, I see a few good pieces that can play on a good team, like Vilma, Harris, Revis, Rhodes maybe Ellis, Robertson, and Thomas but who knows. The one question is how many of those guys fit our defense? We have a bunch of players on this team who are good complimentary players on a good team, like Barton and Hobson, Can Vilma fit the system? Can we get a pass rusher? Can Robertson be the answer at NT?

WHat would you guys say to looking at that guy Faneca from the steelers, in free agency this offseason? He seems real tough. Anyone know if he's a character guy?

This is nuts - point blank. Using our 1st round draft choice on a QB would give us 4-12 records for the next 2yrs. Clemens deserves the chance to be named starting QB in camp & enter the 2008 season at the position. Because Mandummy waiting so long to pull the trigger on Chad, we were left w/only a handful of games to judge Clemens. Especially, as it has been noted, taking into account a lackluster O-line, w/o a dominant RB and an injured receiver core. At the very worst, we should building the team around him (even if we are unsure if he is The One). Hell, I'd rather the JETS look like a great team w/a lousy QB (Chicago w/Rex Grossman) than the other way around.
