Well, Scot Boras sent a very clear message to the Yankees today by saying AROD will not negotiate during the season. Boras is the BOSS now. AROD will always go where the money is. His signing with Texas proved that. Its rumored the Angels will offer him part ownership in the club, besides a 30 million plus contract. As DON said, Boras is probably puking - but that is after he was laughing so hard after the Yankees TRIED to paint him into a corner.
joke of the day! it scares me now that AROD wont negotiate with the Yankees during the season. Makes one think that he seriously wants out...and who can blame him the way the fans have treated him.... I seriously this isnt the case
Well, if you read the Los Angeles newspapers, you would know how serious Moreno (the owner of LA) is about acquiring AROD. Part ownership of the Angels has been predominantly discussed in the LA newspapers. 30 million plus is just the starting point.
of course not having your supposed best player get a single RBI in 12 postseason games doesn't hurt your team. It was everyone else's fault, what more could ARod do than bat /97 w/ zero RBI, a few errors, a couple of pick offs on the basepaths- he was amazing. I guarantee you if ARod plays well, not great, just well we win at least 1 of the last 2 series(if not both) and who knows what happens after that. exactly, people forget we aren't on the hook for the entire contract but will be if he opts out so his salary will at least double. We can improve in many more areas for that money. We haven't won anythng w/ hi, it just doesn't make sense to tie that much money in a player like that. I don't care if he breaks the HR record in a Yankee uniform- I just want to win again. It's intresting how he's having this greats eason and the Yankees stink this year but when he's had chances in big games he hasn't come through- very intersting. and w/ himthey are at .500 so why spend $30 mil for that? and by the way, we wouldn't be 15 games under w/o him, we might be better depending upon how we spemnd that money and 100% for sure we would have been better the last 12 postseason games w/o him. The way the fans have treated him? He hasn't produced! of course he'l hear it from the fans. .097, ZERO RBI in 12 postseason games- do you ant to retire his # for that? He is being praised now b/c he is earning it this year, he didn't earn it the past few years.
I agree. His body lanhuage when speaking to media all but says he's history. The Yankee fans that go to the games deserve nothing less. I almost hope he does go to Boston and torment the Yankees for the next 10 years. The only one I feel sorry for is Steinbrenner but he let Torre and Jeter hang Arod out to dry last year and did nothing about it.
Torment? heck if Boston acquired him 4 years ago instead of us the Sox would still be searching for a title. Let Boston pay $30 mil for him, he has proven so far that he is not a winnng player. For $30 mil i'd take that gamble that he couldn't do it in Boston as well.
I want to win, I am not interested in watching him try to break HR records. let some other teams fans have fun w/ that, i have fun when we win.
Winning is over for the Yankees. Get use to it. The team from top to bottom is old and generally sucks. People would come to them in the past because they wanted to win. No free agent in their right mind will come to the Yankees for years. They still want to win and it won't hapeen in NY.
Manny would have been gone if they got ARod and I'm not sure of the timing but I think Schill may never have made it to Boston as well. Itwould be 89 years and counting.
No FA wil come to the yanks? What are you talking about? It alwas comesdown to money and we have the most, we also have tradition, a new ballpark, great young pitching prospects. We aren't far away at all and we'll be better using that $30 mil per on 2-3 different really good players that can get it done in october. We are not going away, this is not 1982. Even if we miss his year we'll get back in '08. Anyway, so you think we won't win and your entertainment will be from watching ARod hit meaningless HRs? I'd rather be bad for a few years rebuilding than be mediocre w/ ARod. I don't get any joy out of seeing him hit HRs unless we win.
Lots of teams have money now..Maybe 5 or 6. All those others have a better chance of winning then the Yankees. That's the teams they will go to. Pitching is only good if you can score runs too. We have 76 million invested in Pavanno, Giambi, Damon, Abreu and Pettitte(if he decides to stay) for another year. We will be no better in 08 then we are now. Without Arod we will be that much worse. Maybe the worst record in baseball next year. You won't get 2 or 3 really good players for 30 million. You will get 2 or 3 mediocre players. You can only put 9 players on the field and when money is no object you don't spend it on mediocre players when you can have the best player in the game. And yeah, meaningless HRs are what fans come to see. They could care less about meaningless singles like Jeter hits.
Schilling would have been there, and they would have won that title. Schilling was acquired right around Thanksgiving, and the Arod trade thing was during the Winter Meetings in December. Arod would have replaced Nomar at short, and in turn he would have been dealt to the White Sox for Magglio Ordonez to replace Manny. Arod and Manny would have been a wash offensively, and so would Nomar and Ordonez, and the defense would have been better. They still would have won.
This should come as no surprise to anyone and is the right stance for the Yankees to take. "The Yankees have a message for Alex Rodriguez: sign an extension before opting out of your contract, or don't sign with us at all. A source told the Daily News that the Bombers have made it clear to A-Rod and his agent, Scott Boras, that they have no intention in taking part in a free-agent bidding war for the two-time American League MVP, and that if he chooses to opt out of his current contract and open the bidding to the rest of baseball, his days in pinstripes will be over."
Even w/ schilling if you take out manny and put ARod in you aren't winning that WS. Manny was a key to that title, take him out nd put in a player who can't perform under pressure and you don't come back on us in 2004. heck, ARod goty guys going that year w/ the fight, if he's on your team he doesn't do that and you may not even make a postseason run that year. I wish you guys did get him instead of us. Another key to that title run was orlando Cabrera who is the anti-ARod who doesn't put up fashy #s but came through in the cltch. He killed us that series, #s for #s everythnig would have been about the same if you got ARod but clutch play would have gone way down. I don't think there's anyway you win that WS if you made those moves.
Ortiz, Lowe, Schilling, Foulke, and Dave Roberts were all the clutch the Sox needed in '04. What got them going that day was Bill Mueller ending Rivera's air of invincibility. If they had gone on to lose that game it wouldn't have done anything, and if they won it the same way without the fight, it would have still been a spark. Mueller's home run was what showed the Sox how to beat Rivera. Say whatever you want, but you are wrong that they wouldn't have won in '04 with Arod instead of Manny and nothing you say will convince me otherwise. By the way, Manny had ZERO RBI in the 2004 ALCS. Saying he was a key to the title is absurd. As for Cabrera in the clutch, he struck out in the 9th inning of Game 4 with runners on second and third and the game tied. In Game 5 he grounded out in the ninth with the game tied, grounded into a double play in the tenth, and struck out in the 14th. In game 6 he had two hits, but they came in the 2nd and 4th innings, and later he grounded into a fielder's choice in the 9th with a 4-2 lead. Game 7 he did do something in the 9th hitting a sac fly, but the score was already 9-3. So show me where Cabrera was clutch.
I am absolutely right, ARod is not a winning player. Take away Manny and Cabrera for ARod and ordonez? Come on, cabrera is the anti-Arod- he was HUGE for you guys and Is till believe a major lsos not signing him after the season PLUS you also got mientkiicz as a aprt of that deal who was a big defensive addition. You take away those guys and put in a non producing ARod and you don't win it. as for the fight earlier in the year, the Sox had beaten marinao before so they didn't shatter his invinceability that day- ARod woke up a sleeping dog and got you guys going. Going into tht game you guys were as dead as we are his year as on July 24th you were 10 games out in the L column we are 9 out now) and that game got you going and you eventually finished about 3 out and easily won the WC. I know but at least he hit over .300 while ARod hits/ uner .100 and gets zero RBi and Manny did win WS MVP and overall in the '04 playoffs he ahd 11 RBI in 14 games which is just 5 less than ARod in his postseason career of 35 games. In 2 series he had almost as many RBI as ARod in 9 series. Are you serious? The guy was a thorn in our ide all series long, no he didn't kill us the way Grape Ape did but w/o him you don't beat us. The man hit .379 w/ 5RBI, that's 5 RBI more than ARod in his last 12 postseason games. In Game 4 he had 1 hit but that was an RBI part of a 3 run ining to take a 3-2 lead in the 5th. In game 5 he scored your 1st run part of a 2 run 1st(of course pedro the great couldn't hold it), in Game 6 he singled and scored part of a 4 run inning that won you the game, he also played flawless D and had a SB in the series. He was definitly a key, you guys had a great mix. No doubt you were moe talented befroe the trade deadline but w/o guys like Cabrera, Mientkiwicz and Roberts thre is no way you beat us.
