no, we know you CANT win with mark. sanchez had the best defense and best run game and still couldnt win. he is the worst qb in all football, and has been since he has come in the league
Schaub had MORE talent in Houston and couldn't win more than one playoff game in his CAREER. we had BRETT FAVRE, a HOFer, in 2008 w/ similar talent and we couldn't even make the playoffs w/ a weaker sched and no Brady. Mark in Chicago and they are playing this week.
never had the best D or best run games, had good to very good of both but never the best. Always overrated Ds folding in big spots, run game was great against bad teams and in garbage time.
Wrong answer. Prior to the 2009 season Alex Smith was going into the 5th year of a his bloated rookie contract, which was prior to the current CBA; it did not have the rookie scale. In 4 years he completed just 54.6% of his passes, threw 19 TDs to 31 INTs and started roughly half the games due of injury or benchings. LIKE Sanchez it was a far gone conclusion that the 49ers would cut him as up to that point he was considered a bust, was set to make too much money in 2009 and coming back from a year where he was put on IR because of a shoulder injury. Except for it being after Smith's 4th season vs Sanchez's 5th, the circumstances are pretty much identical. Rather than starting over with a new team, Smith elected to restructured his contract and sharply reduced his base salary. He wanted to finish what he started and turn his career around with the team that drafted him. He was not resigned as the automatic starter; he was only guaranteed a chance to compete. Note he loss the competition for the starting job to Hill in TC. Also I would argue that Smith's best season was 2011 since his team went 13-3 during his starts vs 5-5 in 2009. That 2011 season he threw 17 TDs to just 5 INTs. Sanchez hate, Makes haste, That leads to waste, for posts
What exactly was so special about Sanchez in those years that anybody short of Rodgers, Brees, Peyton or Brady. Couldn't have taken the Jets to the playoffs except Sanchez? That's exactly my point you guys are delusional.
In 2009 and 2010 Mark Sanchez led his teams to the AFC Championship Game and played well in both of those matchups. The team was let down by terrible defensive play. In fact, in the Steelers game, the Jets offense was so hot that most agree if they got the ball back, they would have won. The defense let them down. The argument that Sanchez is why they did not go to the Super Bowl is ridiculous, because he got them to the title games and played well in both.
I dont think its about what he did to get to the playoffs but what he did when he got there. Theres no denying he played well on the big stage even as a rookie.
why is it so difficult for Jet fans to praise mark at all? the man played really well and nearly helped us get to 2 SBs and he is bashed like he Bubby Bristered us.
In the Colts Championship Game, Mark led the Jets to a 17-6 lead, including an 80 yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards. Shonn Greene got injured and the offense couldn't quite pull it together after that, but he was great in the 1st half.
I meant up to that point 2009 was his best season. After a combination of poor play and injuries. He looked like he was finally getting "it". He completed 60% of his passes and threw 18 TD's and 12 INT's. Really it was the injuries that made the 49ers stick with Alex for as long as they did up to that point. In 2010 he was up and down and he even missed games due to injury. Compare that to Sanchez who statistically is coming off one of the worst seasons for a QB and he's coming off a shoulder injury.
That's not my point. Based on Sanchez's play in those years it wasn't anything special. He was bad in 09 and was average at best in 2010. Any competent QB could've played under center for us and we'd probably make the playoffs anyway. I say that because Sanchez's play was that underwhelming. If you credit the defense for the Pitt loss then you have to credit them for the Patriots and Colts wins fair?
he wasn't bad in '09, he had a few awful games to skew #s but he wasn't bad and he was a top 10 type of QB in 2010. He was a huge reason why we made the playoffs in 2010.
He played brilliantly against the Bengals in the 09 wildcard game, and he had his best game as a pro IMO against the Patriots in the 2010 divisional round. His other playoff games were typical Sanchez games.
I wouldn't say tainted but it was certainly much easier to get to a SB in 1968 than it was in 2009 or 2010. The division was cake, the next best team was .500, the 2 best teams in the AFL had to play a playoff game while the Jets sat home and rested and the Jets got a home game despite have a worse record than oak and losing to Oak head to head. If you don't think that was beneficial I don't know what to tell you. The 1968 jets wouldn't have won the division either if they had Tom Brady(a REAL great QB) in their division.
Okay does this same "skew" logic count for any other player in the NFL? Or does this count only for Mark? He was average at best in 2010. He made steady improvements and looked like he was on his way to becoming a good QB but it never quite materialized. He was not top 10 in any year so stop it.
Definitely fair that the defense played great in those games, but it was an overall team effort. The Patriots game took everybody playing great and they did. The Colts game was a chess match, that Rex was able to pull off, as time expired on Peyton and the Colts.
You bash the greatest QB in Jets history yet you make excuses for Sanchez? Wow just wow. Is it the Jets fault that they were the best team in their division? Is it their fault that the AFL playoffs were set up the way it was? You have an agenda.
I have no idea what your point is here but I think it's fair to declare that the whole thing about the circumstances being different has been debunked. With regards to why the 49ers stuck with Smith as long as they did, I would say for the first 4 years it was because he was the 1st overall pick in the draft and they had made a huge financial investment in him. After year 4, it was because he was willing to take a massive pay cut to stay on the team. Now, the questions are would Sanchez do the same and would Idzik agree.
