You speak like Sanchez afforded these options for a sustained time but still failed. [Ask yourself why Jets drafted Geno before thinking about these facts with Sanchez first. You will have your answer.]
Think there are two keys which I am sure many people said. Get Geno weapons and protection and then get him reps. Hopefully, he learns to read blitzes better and learns where to and where not to throw the ball. He needs lots of reps still being a relatively raw player coming out of an air raid offense at WVU. It was easy to get frustrated at how awful he looked this year but I think that many people forgot that most draftnicks rated him as the best QB in the draft but that he needs work.
meh. The draft last year was obviously weak at qb, and every team passed on Smith at least once. And it is likely he will still need work next year, which is why they need to bring in someone who will be real competition, and who could potentially lead the team if Smith is no better. I am not prepared to let the whole season next year depend on whether Smith improves to a significant extent. The Jets are more than one man. As for the FO, I think they should be judged on how much of an effort they make to upgrade the Qb position. If they try and fail, that is one thing. But to essentially do nothing and hope for the best with Smith sounds too risky, and I question whether they will do that and nothing more.
I'm not saying that Smith is or will become Brady by any means, but not for nothing, how many times did every team pass on Brady before the Pats took him in the 6th round? The point is that says nothing. The HOF is full of players who were taken in middle and lower rounds who were passed on by every team. You just don't give up on a QB this early and write him off. There are a lot of legitimate reasons (not excuses) why he struggled so last year. If the Jets do a good job in shoring up the OL, and getting some offensive weapons in FA and the draft, and Rex stays away from any offensive decision making, then there won't be any excuses if he flops this year.
We already know Smith is no Brady. I have not written Smith off. I am merely not ready to anoint him the starter with no competition. Excuses? For all his interceptions, not one was a tipped pass> They were ALL on him. All of them. So if Smith plays badly, but the rest of the team is better, do you want to try and salvage the season relying on Simms? I just want to be clear here.
don't put sanchez in a category w/ those guys. busts don't own the franchise record for playoff wins in only 4 seasons.
one educated, one not. To put him w/ guys who had no success int his league is as asinine as it gets. Russell/Leaf/Couch 33-72, 31% Sanchez 37-31(including 4 PLAYOFF wins), 54% exactly the same
They weren't all on him, but they were mostly on him. He stopped throwing at Stephen Hill for a reason, which was that he had no confidence Hill would come down with a contested ball and he'd gotten burned a couple of times when Hill over-ran the ball or failed to come back and fight for it.
because we were winning with Sanchez...until 2011 f'ups hmy: As of today Sanchez is better than Geno and I think Sanchez should start.
One was drafted by the team with the 17th (IIRC?) overall pick. The others were drafted the worst team in the league at the time. Very misleading statistics.
so what? teams get good and bad quickly. we hadn't won a playoff game in 5 years before Mark and only made it one of the previous 4 years. Couldn't make it the year before w/ Brett Favre, Brady out for the year and a weaker sched.
We couldn't make it with Brett Favre because he played the majority of the year with a torn fucking biceps. The fact that you think there is no difference between getting drafted by a playoff team (with the best defense, running game, and offensive line in football) and getting drafted by the worst team in football is very telling. If you don't think there's a difference, it's not even worth arguing with you.
I think it's been pretty well established and acknowledged by most that if Favre wasn't injured midway through 2008, we waltz into the playoffs with a 1 or 2 seed and probably win our first SB in 40+ years. Dammit. _
stop w/ the excuses, the man built his career on playing through pain. we didn't lose b/c of his injury, we lost b/c of his awful decision making and the fact that he didn't want to be here. we weren't a playoff team, we hadn't made it in 3 years. We had pieces in place but again teams get good and bad in this league in a hurry. How bad was SF the year before Harbaugh? Indy was a 2 win team in 2011, how did they win 11 year 1 w/ Luck? yep I call Mark elite all the time. so which poster are you? I don't buy that at all, he was mediocre/bad most of the season before the injury. he was holding his arm in October and played his best football in November. we lost b/c he didn't want to be here.
We have already established you are wrong here. Lets not do this again. If Brett Favre is not injured in the second half of that season, we coast into the playoffs and likely win the SB. _
