He's more of a "technician" at the QB position rather than having a really talented arm. Other than that, he's never won anything.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/06/06/mark-sanchez-is-getting-pointers-from-rich-gannon/ "The great thing about Mark is he doesn't just want to be good; he wants to be great," Gannon said, per Jim Corbett of USA Today. "And he's willing to put in the work to get there. "He has a very bright future."-Rich Gannon
He definitely has the will to be great and he has a strong skill set, too. He has shown great leadership and he showed plenty of sparks of what could be in 2009. This year is going to be a HUGE year for Mark. He's either going to take a step back or a giant leap foward. There is no middle ground.
Rivers is the biggest whiny bitch of a QB since Jeff George, no way in hell does he deserve top 5... Part of being a QB is leading your team, not bitching and moaning to your offensive line, whining to your receivers, or crying about every call you don't agree with. Such a weenie...
Yeah it's going to be a big year for Sanchez to show how he improves, but i'm not judging his career next season, I can see him making small improvements like cutting down on his INTs and making better decisions, but I don't see him "arriving" yet, year 3 or year 4 I see it happening. I just don't know if I can see the Jets leaning on him if the defense isn't playing well for a FULL game, from behind with the defense playing decent like the game in Miami, next year I can absolutely see him coming back and whooping the Fins or something like that, the running game is going to have to continue to succeed and I hope Shotty doesn't give him the whole playbook to utilize right off the bat, maybe around week 4 when Holmes returns Nonetheless i'm excited to see this guy succeed in the NFL, I want Rex and Sanchez with the Jets until they retire
I think that after Manning leaves the league we will have the smartest QB in the league with some of the best intangibles this league will have ever seen. Granted he may not have the cannon like Stafford or the mobility of Young but he has the ability to soak info like a sponge and use it to its fullest advantage each and every play. I'm convinces that when his time is up he will be considered one of the smartest QB's to have ever stepped onto the field and I'm glad that he's ours and hope he can stay a Jet for as long as possible.
I agree on the Cutler-Romo-Eli questionings... specially Cutler last season he looked awful in some games. I would move Big Ben higher on that tier also. About Favre... I'd say he belongs in the same tier as Marino. I think they're both elite despite usually failing under pressure (the former) or never winning anything (the latter). When I think of great QBs I've seen in my life, either I like it or not, my heart tells me that those two were elite, even if I want my mind to tell me otherwise. Sanchez's arm strenght is not great, but is not a liability neither... I mean that it's nothing that criples the playbook. I'm confident that he'll overcome the int problem, he'll make better decitions and will be a lot better QB than he was in his rookie year... would he be elite/great? Imho one thing I haven't seen him doing in his rookie year, that I don't have a clue how good he'll be when he'll have to do it, that usually makes a difference between a great or good QB, and I haven't seen it mentioned (at least) in this thread is... the 2 minutes drives. Every single elite QB has that in common, if you're winning against them for less than 7 and they have the ball with still 2 minutes on the clock, usually it means that you're dead. So, based on what I've seen so far, I think he'll be good enough to make it to that 2nd tier. If he proves he can be a threat with 2 minutes on the clock, I'll say he has a pretty damn good chance to reach the elite status as his career unfolds.
He puts up the numbers and gets his team into the playoffs every year. Is he whiny? Yes, but you can't use that to deny his talent.
I disagree. Mark is a good young qb, but has done nothing to prove he is number 2 behind Manning in the smarts department. There are a ton of young qb's (starters/backup) that have put up better stats, make better reads, throw more accurately and reads defensive schemes faster. Give the kid some time to make a case for statements like this, lord knows he has the tools and the weapons.
A Dolphin fan disagreeing about how good a Jet is?? IMPOSSIBLE!! All Dolphin posters should have a user title of Capitan Obvious Responder.
Rivers has amazing placement and accuracy, moreso than any other QB in his VERY talented QB class. He should thank God everyday that he ended up in San Diego, however, because I can't see his arm being successful in the swirling winds of the Meadowlands or the quagmire that is Pittsburgh weather.
You have to remember that I'm figuring that Manning is leaving the league in 4-6 years. That gives Sanchez plenty of time to develop and become the quarterback we know he can be. That was not a now statement it was a near future statement.
Well my disagreement came with points to support my views. You just saw that I wasn't a Jets fan and disregarded anything I wrote. Nice way to limit your view and understanding.
Huh? I'm not understanding, once I see a Phin avatar I'm zoned out? ummm.... How bout that Marino guy, he sure is doing a bang-up job on CBS.
I don't believe any one of them is smarter than Sanchez. Rodgers will have better stats as will Flacco (with time) but I truly believe Sanchez will outplay Rivers, Cutler, Eli (personally I think Eli is garbage), and your boy. Rodgers will become an elite but none of the others you listed will be (IMO). Granted I don't have the stats or scouting reports to back this up these are all just my opinions on what I see on the field every Sunday. I could and probably will be proved wrong on some or all of my points but I know what I see and have been following football long and dedicated enough to solidly say I believe Sanchez and his brainpower are truly something special.
I dig. Everyone is entitled to believe their opinions can be true. If he turns out to be better than the majority of the qb's I listed, I'd be shocked. It's nothing though, Tom Brady has been running this division for quite some time and I doubt if sanchez, edwards or henne becomes Brady like during their careers. :steelers:
Drew Brees is going to take over as "smartest" QB when Brady and Manning leave the field. Matt Ryan is going to be right behind him. Sanchez should be somewhere in the vicinity and that's good enough for me.
