You hack! Quit stealing my material. Back to the subject at hand. Isn't the title of Franchise Quarterback earned not bequeathed? Sure...I like Sam, but he hasn't done a damn thing yet. He had one good game vs. Detroit. Even if he is FQB capable...this is the NY Jets, the great sinkhole of pro football.
Darnold, with the exception of Cleveland in my opinion, has played better every game. It isn't reflected in his stats, but he is making progress. Hopefully that continues for 3-4 years, unlike our boy Sanchez who topped off quickly.
Saying what, that I hope he continues to progress? yes, I do hope he continues to get better. Why wouldn't I?
We all hope he progresses...but the comparison to Sanchez is unwarranted and unfair. The Jets fucked Sanchez by getting rid of his offensive playmakers. He wasn't quite good enough to overcome that...who knows if Darnold could do any better under the same circumstance. It's way too early to tell if Sam will live up to the hype. I "hope" he'll be great, but sadly the Jets have an abysmal track record when it comes to developing quarterbacks.
The NY Post confirms it with a nice article. Bowles & Darnold himself talk about it. Darnold says he saw the field better against Jacksonville and that he's feeling more and more confident as a NFL QB. VERY exciting development. He has a great shot to build on that game during this upcoming three game homestand.
Right, I didn't compare him to Sanchez, I said I hope he keeps getting better and better, something Sanchez was not able to do.
My main concern with him were the misses. Threw the ball slightly off to Enunwa (he should have caught it), missed Bilal that time, and missed the deep ball to Robby. Thats not something I expected out of him. He hits those three throws (or at least 2) we’re talking about a MUCH different game from the perspective of his performance. Hopefully he hones it in. He was dreadful last game (not all his fault tho). He missed 4 throws on one drive alone and should of had 3 INTs. I’d like to know what you were watching.
Exactly like you said, it wasn't all his fault. The Jaguars are a much better team than us and it showed. While he should have had several interceptions, we were basically down the entire game (some his fault, some the defense). he has no help from the o-line, no help from the running game, and the wide receivers are not doing as well as I had hoped. With as bad as everyone played, he didn't look like complete garbage out there, despite not playing well, if that makes any sense.
At some point this season Sam will need to make something out of nothing. If he continues to string these types of games together he won’t be immune to criticism (not that he really is now) regardless of the situation around him. Statistically speaking, we’ve played 2 of the best passing defenses (Detroit, Jacksonville) and 2 of the worst (Miami, Cleveland). Denver falls just outside of the bottom 3rd in the league, and they haven’t had the benefit of playing us yet. Granted, one monster game can catapult you either way in the rankings this early in the season, but it does provide some hope that the Broncos are in the lower half of the league. Nevermind that their rushing D is top 10...
Let's not get carried away here. Talk is still very cheap. "Wait and see" is always a good philosophy with this team.
From today's New York Post: https://nypost.com/2018/10/05/jets-seeing-improvement-in-sam-darnold-that-stats-dont-show/ I also noticed that Sam Darnold has a vampire canine tooth. Me likey. Halloween on the brain, you know.
How was Jacksonville his best game? Missed throws all over the field. Listen, who expected him to have good games against the Jaguars and a very underrated Browns defense (shut down Big Ben and Brees before having a lapse last week against Carr) Darnold played very well against the Lions and Dolphins. Just not sure we should be making excuses for him. He was terrible in Jacksonville.
