This is a very good point and it is probably the only reason Chad is still on the team. From a coaching standpoint they have to do a good job this year or they might be out. Chad can get them to the mediocraty that might save them for this year. The usual one and done playoff loss will save them for another year. The coaching staff is now a victim of 2006's weak schedule, overachieving and just plain luck. The won the battle in their first year but they will ultimately lose the war if they have to maintain mediocraty year in and year out.

Quote: "...johnnysd is so right. The Jets are going nowhere with Chad (unless, as I said earlier, the Jets coaches know something the rest of us do not--and that will ean that Eric Mangini is truly a "Mangenius" instead of the "Manweenie.")..."

In my opinion, the CS must know something that most of the people who are keeping this thread going don't want to think about -- Chad in their eyes is worthy of competing with Kellen because he could win the job.

The CS sees that both Chad and Kellen need the time to set their feet and make the throw when they have more than a single choice of WR. The CS sees that a successrful running game and a stalwart OL are necessary for this to be possible. The CS knows that if this is not possible then it just doesn't matter who the QB is.

Quote: "...If the Jets could become a running team it would take the pressure off whoever they put behind center. Hopefully the offensive line is improved (and won't be decimated by injuries, like the last time they tried to buy an offensive line)..."

Injuries are quite often a luck of the draw in the NFL. Once they start in a team, they can escalate because one often creates another because of the deficiencies left on the team by the earlier injuries.

However, there is no question that under the BS offensive scheme, the team needs to be able to run early and often in order to get the ball downfield which is an important objective this year, according to the interviews in Feb. and Mar.

The running game is all important for the QBs competition. If it dominates then Chad and Kellen will have better performance possible, and their strengths will compete, instead of just their weaknesses.

You just said it, because the new guy came in and won the Super Bowl, therefore making Bledsoe expendable. Clemens hasn't even won the starters job yet, so needless to say it's a different situation.

For one thing neither guy has won the job yet, so your whole premise is based on speculation. Secondly, Pennington never moped when he was injured or benched before, so if he loses his job on his own we'll have what we had last season--Clemens playing and Chad helping him out from the sidelines, earning his money that way. The same way Vinny helped him, the same way it's been done for ages. And again, if Clemens gets hurt, like he did this year, we have someone who can step in without the season going down the tubes.

This is a huge point, too. Just because we beefed up the O-line doesn't make your QB immune from injury. QBs get hurt all the time. All it takes is one lineman to slip on one play, one blown assignment, etc, for your QB to get hurt. Boomer got KO'd for weeks on a non-play when a guy jumped before the snap, Chad got hurt originally running through the secondary after he had gotten a first down. Clemens is a guy who likes to take off and run, how do you know he doesn't get hurt that way? You need to plan for it, just ask Bill Parcells about that. Vinny was as tough as they come and he went down for a year on a non-contact play.
