I am always excited about football season and the Jets,,,,I have lived thru many offseasons of HYPE and honestly am NOT stoked for this upcoming season,,,maybe thats a good thing but my expectations are no where near as high as in years past as last year left a really sour taste in my mouth.
We'll I've been waiting for RT, FS and OLB to get addressed. That hasn't happened yet. So I'm kinda not too excited beyond just the normal "I wanna watch some football."
Just to clarify, the 46 defense shouldn't be referred to as a 4-6 front. It's the 46 defense named after Doug Plank's number.
Real excited, but I get excited whenever football season is a few months away. Thank god there is an actual offseason this year because last year sucked with that.
Agreed. The lockout last year definitely hurt not only the Jets, but all of the teams since there was practically no offseason. The teams that got into the playoffs last season were either really good or really lucky. I'd say the current SB champs were definitely the latter. But enough about the other teams, let's root for the J-E-T-S! Jets! Jets! Jets! :jets:
I'm stoked for 2012 and am expecting to go deep in the tournament. New offense, re-tooled D. Bring it.
#1 Defense this year and we score 8 time in the 1st quarter this year! Last parts a stretch but I think we need it
Bottom line for us is quarterback play. If Mark can drop turnovers into the mid.teens and keep TD number roughly where it was last year we will win at least 9 or 10 games. But I don't know if we've done enough to keep pace with the Pats or Bills for that matter. We have big questionmarks: -QB Sanchez-Tebow dynamic -New offense and coaches -Right Tackle -2 new starting safeties who have not played in Rex's system -No real option at free safety ( rookie maybe) -Does Coples become a force and do we actually pressure QBs? -Does the locker room gel or does a 3 games losing streak set Holmes off -Do we become a top 5 running team? Can Shonne Green be the back we've seen glimpses of? -Do new WRs contribute enough? This is what makes being a Jet fan so fun LOL
im just gonna expect an all out disaster of a season and anything beyond that will seem like a pleasant surprise
Excited doesn't even begin to touch the surface. Without Schottenheimer we are going to win the freaking Super Bowl!!!!!!!
Although you make some valid points, I will temper my enthusiasm about this season. Part of me believes this was the change Sanchez needed, having Sparano as the OC. I remember many saying that Brees was hampered by the complexities of Schottenheimer's system as well and then he went to a coach of the Parcell's mode, like Sparano and has since flourished. I still say we need a pass rushing OLB and a FS to complete our D. If we can't cover Gronk, and Hernandez, Brady will continue to have us for lunch. But I think we're a step better than last year. As far as Turner, I'll reserve comment. That being said. I hope we'll do so much better than last year, but that remains to be seen.
Excited for football? yes. Hope jets win it all? Of course. But realistic also 31 other teams have hundreds of other people all working their life away to win more games than 2012. Not like Jets are only team who had changes and are trying hard to improve
Always absurdly excited for football. I don't have high expectations for the Jets, but I didn't in '09 either. Hopefully we'll contend this year.
I'm still wondering why the Jets are looking to become a ground and pound team in this day and age? Seems to me you need to throw the ball to win in todays nfl
The Big Nickle...coming to a MetLife stadium near you...Rex is a fking genius http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=72441
Lots of Kool-Aid drinking going on here. It's generally accepted that the NFL is a passing league right now. If the best offenses rely primarily on the pass to succeed, it stands to reason that opposing defenses are adjusting accordingly, finding fast guys to put in the secondary and linebackers that can cover. What happens when these agility oriented defenses meet a ball control offense? I guess we'll find out. I like the direction of the offense. Last year's Dolphins never gave up on the season, and they ended up winning some games in the second half. Sparano can keep guys working and motivated even when things look grim. Schottenheimer, as we saw, did not have the same quality. This is a talented team that got in its own way last year. Rex is going to field a stingy defense because that's what he does. I don't know if we'll see more wins or not, but the Jets will be a better team by the end of the year. If they can make the playoffs, it'll be a fun January to watch.
My Aussie Rules team (Melbourne Demons) is currently sitting at 0-8 in a 22 game season after sacking the coach midway through last season and are bottom of the ladder behind two new franchise teams, one in their first season and the other in their second. So to say I am looking forward to the new NFL season and cheering on the Jets is an understatement. The one big improvement I am hoping for this year is for the O-Line to stand up. Stop them leaking like a sieve and I think it will go along to solving our problems. Am also interested to see where Tebow will fit in (I think he can provide us something other than a mere backup QB) and how Sanchez will go with the new Offensive coach. NFL seems to be a league where fortunes can turn drastically so I see no reason why the Jets can't go all the way if they can get the O-Line right. We had a horrible season last year but the last couple before that there was vast improvement. I think the Jets will bounce back next season and have a lot of media and supporters eating their words.
