Great wide reciever , but undersized and we have a good crew to work with. three years remaining on his contract is also a bad sign . The money hooked him , now he wants out of a nowhere team.
Why would we bring in another player who bitches about his contract... have we learned nothing about Tanny from Kendall & Baker? ain't happening
You know, this morning as I was reading an article on this situation I was thinking to myself "It's effing ridiculous how no players feel any need to honor their contracts." I mean, isn't the entire point of a contract meant to be a binding relationship between two parties? As long as all terms of said contract are abided by, it should never need renegotiation. Why is it a player can turn around 4 years into a 6 year deal and threaten a team if the terms are not renegotiated, but a team can't tell an underperforming player 4 years in "You haven't earned your pay, so we will stop sending checks until you do"? BTW: I mentioned in another thread that we must be halfway through preseason if people are looking to sign guys off other teams' scrapheaps. Well, the second sign has obviously arrived that the season is fast approacing! The Maddenesque trade ideas have begun! You can almost hear Hank belting out "Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!!!"
As much as I like Boldin - he is too similar to Cotchery. If we bring in a WR that is going to demand big time cash - let it be a true clearcut #1 type guy. Honestly I am still dissapointed we didn't pursue Chris Henry. Talk about being the missing ingredient to our WR corps. Would have been well worth the risk.
Teams do just that all the time. It's called releasing a player. Besides signing bonuses, NFL contracts aren't guaranteed. Signing bonuses can be forced to be repaid as well. Ask Ricky Williams and T.O. about that.
You know, actually, I always forget about that. Good point. Still, both sides should be bound to a contract signed by both parties. What is the purpose of a contract otherwise?
We dont need Boldin with the depth we have at WR. If we were to add cap room I would rather see it go to helping out another posistion.
and he's not afraid to go over the middle...like that pussy Randy Moss. If healthy, I'd take Boldin in a New York minute.
Boldin has good game speed - but he is not a burner in the least. He ran a 4.71 40 yd dash. I am not knocking his game he is a very good reciever - but for the money it will take to sign him I just think he is too similar to cotch to be worthwhile for us long term.
True, but I agree that this won't happen. I think the only way we could do this is if we moved Coles to another team and his contract has been guaranteed for this year and next. We could still trade him but we'd be stuck with that salary and the cap hit (as far as I know). Also, there is already enough work to do to get our offense on the same page without bringing in a new starting receiver at this point. You're also not going to get Boldin for less than a 2nd round pick. Maybe it's not impossible, but I'd be willing to bet it doesn't happen.
Boldin has skills, but he mouths off to much in the press. We've had enough big mouths in the last couple of years what with Mawae, Kendall, Coles and Baker
