We have done what you stated in your first sentence the last two years with Wilk and Wilson. And NE has barely been successful with that process.
I find this hard to believe, nothing can be believed at this time of year but every word typed is taken as gospel. This goes against everything we have done up to this point in the offseason. We made the one big splash for Tebow but every other hole has been left untouched. If we were more aggressive filling holes in FA then maybe I could buy this rumor but as it stands now I call major BS on this one.
That is very true, but at this point we have too many holes to trade up. The only player that should even be thought of when talking about trading up for is T Rich, and if he makes it to 9, I think he makes it to 16...
I dont think thats the consensus at all. I can't begin to tell you how many times ive seen comments like " I pray we move up for Ingram" or "Ingram is a clear top 10 prospect" , Its just ridiculous, and personally it frustrates the shit outta me.
Oh by all means I agree we have been successful with doing so, but I dont think that means it should be our intentions everytime. (Not saying that's what youre proclaiming, just pointing that aspect out.)
There was a Ingram-Upshaw thread a month or so back in which I posed the example of whether an Ingram supporter, who was caught up in sack numbers, would take Adalius Thomas fresh out of college knowing what we know now at 16. Keep in mind Thomas' career sack average was around 5 a season. He said no, as he wouldn't help the current lineup with the passrush. So now it comes out that Rex compares Ingram to AT. Really puts that Ingram supporter in an awkward situation...
If he moves up in this draft for anyone when last year showed what lack of depth will do, then I will have completely lost all faith in Tannenbaum.
The way I look at it...is Ingram worth trading up 7 to 8 spots? NO. While Ingram is a good player he hasn't separated himself significantly from other DE/OLB worth giving up a second Rd pick or a 3rd Rd pick plus other multiple picks. You give up a 2nd Rd pick, you lose a lot of options....Trumaine Johnson, Bobbie Massie, George Iloka. I'd rather trade up in Rd 2 for Shea McClellin and give up our 3 rd rd pick and keep our 1st Rd pick for Mike Floyd, Cordy Glenn or DeCastro. DeCastro & McClellin would be my dream scenario.
Hit the youtube button and then put everything after the = sign. Anyways, I hope this is a smoke screen. I do not want the Jets to trade up. They can get some good value by sitting in place or even trading down. They don't have the luxury to use two high picks to get one player
Well I guess I was talking about the most knowledgable/frequent posters with regards to that. I completely agree. I would take Ingram at 16, no questions asked, but trading everything for one player who isnt an Elite prospect (like Aldon Smith or Von Miller were), is ridiculous. I would love McClellin in the 2nd. Him and DeCastro would be awesome...
I would agree with that comment if thats what you mean. I just keep getting frustrated because, for me, Ingram is becoming more overrated than anything. I like him and think he has plenty of potential but I will admit hes not my favorite prospect.
You aren't alone. He needs a quality rusher on the other side and the Jets just don't have that balance. If the Jets select him, it will be almost as bad as Gholston.
Comparing Ingram to Gholston is laughable. Ingram loves the sport of football, was leader/captian of the team and isnt a one trick pony. God, people have to stop throwing around Gholston as a comparison to anyone that might not be an Allpro...
