I don't think anyone disagrees jobs aren't meant to be fun, but playing in the NFL isn't your typical job. 1st off someone like luck is in the top .00001% of the population as far as ability to do that job. They also make enough when that good that they don't need o work for 40-50 years like a typical person at a typical job. it's a short lived career where they don't need to work once they retire anymore. Luck has made almost 100 million in his career. he's set financially for life. Why should some people on a forum be telling him how to live? if he wants to retire at 30 years old and enjoy the sucess and money he's made by playing football why should anyone here give a dam? Luck isn't tell you how to live your life, why would you tell him how to live his? this isn't like albert haynesworth where he got a huge contract and got fat and lazy and said fuck everyone. Luck could have said fuck it and stayed on IR and got his 2019 salary but he didn't. he said he's mentally worn down, he's tired of being injured and spending his life rehabbing and in pain. let the dude live and get out before he's crippled for life.

It is, but it's a free country and Luck and the Colts made their choices.

lol i hear you but remember it's not about the money with luck. It reminds me back when i read about pennington and his rehab. fans don't understand the pain and rehab and stuff players go through. it wears you down mentally. luck loves the game but when you spens 10 months a year rehabbing only to get the shit beat out of you and then do it again, it takes away the joy. what's the point of being employed in the NFL if you don't get to go out there on gameday and play? you are just getting paid to be injured and rehab and that took all the joy out of the game for luck. he didn't want to get paid to rehab

But if you had the choice of sitting on your ass all day and enjoying the $100M you have earned, would you still want to go to your "job"?

The contract he signed allows him to opt out at anytime, he just doesn't get the future payments. Although he actually did get another $20M+

Does your job take a physical toll on your body daily ,to extent that your life expectancy is reduced. Will you have trouble walking , getting out of bed, have to endure mental deficiencies as a result of your job?
Those are the sad realities of "playing the game".
I applaud Luck for walking away while he can. His heart isn't in it , he's enduring another injury. He has made enough money to enjoy the rest of his life without risking further damage.

Not that I disagree with a syllable of this, but I’m fairly certain Luck really doesn’t care about his opinion.

    Just a hunch.

lol true but if u seen the presser, luck was pretty upset at being boo'd by the fans as he walked off the field. I mean his last time walking off the field as a colts QB and in the NFL, was being boo'd that has to sting and he was pretty upset and i feel bad for him.

Luck should return in a year or two with a "miraculous comeback" and will be "rewarded" for his "cooperation" by receiving Vinnie's trophy. Since this guy's retirement means no money in my pocket, am I supposed to even care?

The fans are totally in the right to express their displeasure toward this puppet. Should he have been lifted up on his teammates shoulders instead, and carried off the field like a hero after leaving the entire team hanging two weeks before the start of the season? The fans pay big money, even for that hideous scrimmage nonsense called preseason, which is torture to watch, so it's totally in their right to give the guy a big middle finger. Why should anybody even give a damn the guy was booed off the field?

He did more for the Colts than any Jets QB other than Namath has ever done for the Jets.

Not true. 1 AFC Championship loss. Sanchez did that twice.

    Comeback player of the year
Pennington did that twice (ok- once with the Jets. It’s a tie)

Luck was a disappointment given his draft hype

I'm not giving you Sanchez. He played well in the playoffs, but if his teammates during those two years were anywhere close to as bad as Luck's, he wouldn't have gotten near the playoffs. And then he turned into a bust. Luck carried the Colts in a way Sanchez could never dream of doing. OTOH Pennington was legit before all his injuries, but in the end he only gave us three good seasons to Luck's five (though he would've probably given us one more if we hadn't let him go). There's also O'Brien, but I think Luck carried the Colts more than O'Brien carried us.

Luck had no intention of having his retirement leaked while he was in uniform during game day. He clearly wasn't looking to be cheered during a mid week press conference. He wanted to quietly walk away. Someone in the Colts organization intentionally leaked it during the game. Your alternate narrative of being carried off by his teammates to cheers is a fake narrative. The organization know that fans lack class and can be tooled.

you will never see Jamal Adams retiring early for mental fatigue. He will play football until the entire league tells him they don't want him anymore.

Luck aced the combine but it goes to show the combine isn't everything. Desire & love of the game are still one of the most difficult things to discern let alone measure. If the Colts knew he was the type to quit when things get hard maybe they wouldn't have drafted him. Or maybe they still would've I guess but it would not have been the slam dunk draft pick that it was perceived to be

It's always interesting to me to see how some NFL fans seem to care as much about players as human beings as the Romans did about gladiators 2000 years ago.
