i fail to see why people looking at the mistakes the team makes means they are not enjoying the team. i know im enjoying the team a helluva lot this season. the thing is i want them to win the super bowl this year as well as be enjoyable to watch.

giving up big leads doesn't usually translate into a championship at the end of the year. but your right the team is improving pretty much every week. i dont see the coaching staff keeping up with the team as far as improving every week goes.

you talk about adjustments. the pats started the going to the spread and looking for the easy outs to watson and gaffney before the 1st half ended. nothing the jets did at halftime slowed down that attack. maybe thats not on the coaches, maybe the personnel they have in the secondary just couldn't stop what the pats were doing. but i think to say that the jets obviously made adjustments and belichick just out maneuvered them is incorrect.

the way i see it the jets have done one of two things when trying to stop the spread offense that has given them fits all season.

    1. they have done nothing to try to adjust to it in game. the coaches have decided to stick with the original gameplan they had as far as coverage goes even though the other team is running an offense that the gameplan was not designed to stop.

    2. they have attempted to make adjustments and they have failed. this could be for two reasons. either the adjustments they have made are not effective and they have no answer. or the adjustments they have made would be effective if they had the personnel in the secondary to effectively run the coverages.

either way something isn't working and its the right of the fans to question why it isn't working. the reason is because we all want the jets to win the super bowl. but if we have a glaring weakness like the fact that our defense cannot stop a hurry up spread offense, someone with the personnel to do so on offense will come out and run that offense all game. at that point the jets will be in a world of trouble. so until the big weaknesses are resolved it is within any fans right to be concerned about those problems moving forward.

True enough...personally I feel it's a personnel thing...our head coach was a DB coach...and a pretty good one at that in NE...and this is an extremely complicated scheme...either way with Law, Revis, and Rhodes leading it I expect we'll see improvements...no need to me to be bothered by it.

The game this coming week is a really big game for Mangini. It'll not only make the Jets a true contender this year, but will make a name for Mangini that he isn't a one year wonder like many think.

Being told not to criticize your team, reminds me of the Herm Edwards era. The team would pull off a win despite the ineptitude of the coach and suddenly just getting the win was all that mattered. Of course we'd continually fail once we'd get into the playoffs and Herm would always be a big part of that. Where's that list of all the people he threw under the bus to keep his job?

The big problem is, that Mangini is getting continually out-coached and when you hit the playoffs you can't get away with these mistakes. What gets me is every time it looks like he's learning, the next week we go and make the same coaching errors.

This team wins despite the coaching staff.

Absolutely two of the best and nobody is questioning that. The point is they went 4-12 after getting them. That says they had other larger needs than what they did. This year they fix the lines and are doing better, right? I don't even know why I have to explain it.

they thought they were ready in 07, they didn't. The Kendall thing got out of hand and they realized that the team wasn't ready. So they made the corrections to their mistakes and gave us the team we have now. I applause their ability to see their arrogance and improve the team, even though the drafted two Home Run, 10 year cornerstones.

Its really a blessing in disguise. Don't hold it against them, because its the past and it can't be changed.

Because it sounds like complaining about something that can't be changed.

And we still improved the team over the long term, which is the #1 purpose of the draft.

This doesn't even think about who we should have drafted and where...or that if we went OL we'd be dead in the secondary and ILB last year AND this year...last years 3-4 DL talent was dead...but we still signed a starting DE in free agency and we actually ended up with one of my favorite 3-4 DE projects in the draft anyway (Brown)...

I'm just saying...if you're going to file a complaint you should probably make sure it's legit. Ignoring every factor at the time might make your claim sound legit to you, but it doesn't really change or put anything into perspective.

I don't think the personnel are organized to replace the impact of Kris Jenkins when he is overwhelmed like that by a relentless no huddle.

It is something that will take some work -- I don't believe anybody else has done this to the NYJs as yet. But now it will become SOP in the NFL.

This coaching staff is alright, but they and the team still have a long way to go to become champions.

That's not to say they can't. Or won't.

I see that Mangini's misplaced faith in his OL coach has been rectified, not just with free agency but with Callahan.

All issues (such as the 07 decisions on OL personnel) cannot so easily be rectified from game to game. They can take season to season.

The NYJs won. That's who I'm rooting for. That's not who I'm complaining about when they break the Pats' hearts in overtime, one niggling little play at a time for 7.50..!

One thing you have to remember, even with guys out, New England still has a lot of players and coaches who have won multiple championships, went 18-0 last year, they were at home and favored. Anyone who thought they were just going to roll over in the second half and not make a run at us was kidding themselves.

Any time a team has that pedigree, expect them to come back at you. As a Devils fan I've seen them do it a million times. Even when they don't win, they make you sweat it out to the very end. Or the Yankees, remember 2001? Arizona should have by all rights beaten them in five games, but the Yankees kept coming back and back and back at them, almost won the series. It took a bloop hit off of Rivera to finally finish them off. That's what we were dealing with Thursday night. A team doesn't win the way that team has won and not give you all you can handle if you're going to beat them on their own field. We got out of there with the win, that's what matters.

Good post. I am happy that we are in the hunt and control our own destiny. I am very tired of the many second guesses from the media and the many fans about adjustment. When ever things don't work the adjustment failed. We have a team with many new players and still learning to play with each other. We have a much stronger focus on winning than before. Yes we make mistakes, but we have the the balls to pull off a win. We are not the Giants people. We can not play defense at that level yet. I don't know what people expected of the Jets but we are better at 7-3 than in most of our wildest dreams. Yes we could improve on our adjustments...so are 99% of the teams out there.
what is important is that we are winning. I guess NE did not adjust well to our last drive in overtime. Go figure

I sincerily hope you are right about Denver. The Offense of Denver scares the crap out of me with their pin-point passing game.

revis can take Marshall away. Royal is a problem. And that line doesn't let anyone touch Cutler... but they give up tons of points.

Plus they have to come all the way east, and teams have sucked doing so.

Mangini seems to play soft defense and not take ANY chances with a lead. I don't think we should fault him for doing this. The pats did have a short field to work with on that last drive. The Jets did keep them from the sidelines and the pats just made plays to score. Can you really blame that on the coach? It did make the game interesting in the end but as soon as the pats scored to close out the first half I knew the game was far from over. My only fear was that the pats would go for two and try to win the game. Props to the Jets for the win. Now go out there and get them titans. Mangini deserves a little more time in my humble opinion. Lets see what they can do this season there is alot of football left to be played.

I do not like the prevent defense BUT:

    1) If they jets had let Moss or Welker get behind them on the last drive, this board would be howling at Mangini for not having the DBs back;

    2) Cassell and Moss just made a great play at the end of regulation. Despite great coverage by Law ( and a hold on Moss), NE made a great play on the tying TD--Not Mangini or Law's fault--just a great throw and catch despite good defense.
