I so thought I was gonna read another rah rah article on Rex. I still got the rah rah but a hell-uv-a lot more. Rex might be a guy who can make his coaches and players feel comfortable and at home with the team. And also bring out the cream of their talents provoking it through their own volition. But what of the fans? Just by reading this article and how he projected the way Rex feels about his players, especially Revis, I am sold that this is the way to go. Move forward and count the dead later. We believe. I feel silly about ever feeling ill towards Revis holding out. We all have issues. And I see that it is not the point of what the issue is but how we get through them and why. For a coach to get that across to the modern athlete that's amazing. Revis is here not as rich as he wanted to be. Cromartie has a wild wanker and found a home. Braylon Edwards has an attitude along with stone hands but fast as hell but check out that beard! Holmes takes drugs so does Ellis and so on and so forth. What matters is together they form what will be one of the baddest teams assembled not so much by their talent but their belief. So much that the GM sent all these guys to Rex cause he was sold as well. That's all Rex. (and a shout out to J.P. Morgan) It amazing how enlightening it is when you can look at life or at people through somebody else's lens. This guy Nicholas Dawidoff is a genius. I loved the article posted thanks...... /endrant p.s. Puck is now the Black Russian..I thought you were black too....
Good stuff, I cant see how players like you mentioned denny would not want to stay here even if it meant less money.
I enjoyed the article. What drives me nuts with most media things is the way they portray the jets and ryan as being trashtalkers and loudmouths - if you actually listen to what ryan says he almost never talks down other players or teams to the media - its nearly always something complimentary. he is confident his own team will do well but the media are desperate for something to write about in the dull world of the NFL and so go overboard with the whole trash talking crap same with the players - you know they aer being asked loaded questions by the media like "do you think you can win the superbowl" or "are you confident in your teammates abilities" to try to get them to say something that they can then quote and which makes them sound like braggarts. grrrrrr
I agree with you. The Media has been anit-Jet and Rex for some time. This was the first real genuine article written with a real look at who he is and what he is really about that I have come across that didn't try to spin his antics and practices as nothing but a bunch of talk. Funny how the Jets used to have a guy called "genius" coaching this team, and really all he was, was a big dope. Now, there actually is a genius coaching this team, and all I see is media and NFL people calling him a "dope." Since Rex is a dope and Mangini a genius, according to the "experts" I realized there was not a lot of stock to be placed on any of the commentary being made about Rex a long time ago. The guy is the real deal, and any team or fan would be crazy not to want him as a part of their organization.
Printing it out now to read on the plane ride today from Tampa to Jersey. Leaving today, gonna be there for the game on Monday!!!! So pumped!!!!
Try not to run through the plane's bulkhead after you read the article to reach the stadium a bit early.
article That was long as hell, but a great read. Any jets fan who didn't love rex before reading that will love him after. I loved the part about him banging a playboy bunny when he was in high school!
Such a well-written article. It's a refreshing change from the typical plain-language articles. Kind of felt like I was reading a short-story.
I'm going to have Mexican today for lunch just so I can sit on the toilet long enough to read this again.
For the record, when was this in print or when will it be in print? My dad does not have a computer, I live 1500 miles from him, and I want him to read it
There's an equally lengthy (but not nearly as good) article on Mangini in ESPN magazine. The writer tries to make Mangini out to be misunderstood and not the asshole he is perceived to be. Tough assignment.
Great article. The more you read and hear and see about Rex, the more genuine and good people he seems. As an aside on the media, in addition to the usual anti-Jet crap I couldn't care less about, I think many in the media are basically followers who get that most other coaches know they're not like Ryan and don't appreciate articles touting him as better than them and different. They get that and hew to the establishment party line.
best line of that article "You liked the looks of that sirloin? Now you get quinoa." when describing the variations of defensive schemes ryan uses and how they switch presnap
