They save $7.3 million period. Revis' contract value for 2017 is over $15 million. Having dead money of $8 million is infinitely preferable to paying him $15 million.
It's also what happens when you fire clueless, incompetent people and replace them with competent people.
I'm hoping its more motivational than anything. Not just to Amaro, but Milliner, McDougal, & even Winters. "You weren't my draft pick, - I probably wouldn't have drafted you if I were here for the X, Y and Z reasons, ---- so, you'd better step the f--k up, stay healthy or turn around + look over your shoulder to get a better view of the 1st stringer at your position."
You act like he played in any real games last year which he did not. Hence why I said he has a clean slate and a full year in 2016 to prove himself. This happens with any new coaching regime. He's got a full season in 2016 to prove it. Any upgrade at TE would definitely help next year's team but we have more pressing needs from a skill position standpoint like an explosive RB or WR that'll help keep defenses honest. I'm cautiously optimistic that Amaro will produce in 2016.
I haven't seen enough of Amaro to make a comment. If he can improve and he's under contract give him another year to see if he's worth it.
I have to agree with this assessment...the "jury" is still out on this one. 2016 will either make or break Amaro in a Jets uniform.
Amaro was an interesting prospect and before his piss poor combine performance I liked him more than Ebron. I think playing in a spread offence similar to what he played at TT will benefit him greatly. He is a natural at catching on the run down the seam and ILB really struggled to cover him. Having said all that he needs to prove he can be durable and explosive at the highest level and that is yet to be seen. I wouldn't throw in the towel on him yet in this offence he has a chance to be a good player for us.
Did you actually see the depth chart it told you all you needed to know how they felt about Amaro.( he was so far down, and not to mention wasn't even listed as A Te) . It's like saying Jeremy Kerley had a clean slate too. The New Jet coaching staff were looking for certain type of slot receiver( one with size) and Kerley doesn't fit the bill.( can't be something you aren't.) The point there is Kerley was very effective slot receiver for the Jets in the past , but it didn't matter as they were looking for different type of receiver.( same applies to Amaro who doesn't fit the criteria they are looking for a TE. Why Kerley will be cut at some point this offseason, and why Amaro isn't going to be as much a factor for the offense next year.( have to read the tea leaves correctly). So you can think Amaro can grow into some weapon in 2016, but there is a good chance if he does , he isn't on the Jets. Also expect to be severly disappointed if you think Jace Amaro could be answer at TE.
The towel was thrown in long time on jace Amaro by this Jet coaching staff. He isn't even considered a Te, as they are looking for certain qualities at tight end, that Jace Amaro doesn't possess.( better be able to block). This is what you have to understand it doesn't matter what we think about any player, but what the coaching staff thinks about a player. If he doesn't fit the criteria they are looking in a position, than really how is he going to get the playing time in the offense to shine.( pure fantasy)
I didn't realize he was that bad. Well if Amaro is that far down in the pecking order they have to pick someone up as a FA. We just can't go with Davis and Cumberland again. There has got to be an alternative. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I watched this kid play quite a bit in college. He is a natural pass catcher and runs well after catching the ball. He didn't do much blocking in college. Hopefully he can show something in training camp.
The fact that he was clearly listed as #1 HB by Bowles/Gailey I took as positive for Amaro. How many times did we throw to our TEs last year? A damn sight less than the number of targets Enunwa got, that's for sure. There's every chance that Amaro can be an upgrade from Enunwa in a similar role. He isn't likely going to be an inline blocking TE for us, but as blocking is about all they did last year this isn't necessarily a bad thing for Amaro.
Amaro played slot and H-back in college. Decker is the slot guy. Amaro is only going to cost an extra $450k this year against the cap (as opposed to cutting him), so it's worth seeing if he can fill a roll somewhere else in Chan's offense this year.
With the apparent decline in his skills and speed this past season, there's no way I pay him another $15 million after paying him a ridiculous $17 million this season. I don't think Revis would even be worth $7 million next season if his speed and skills continue to deteriorate. Revis has gotten his money. Enough with his greedy ass.
