that's why I don't like it when everyone thinks they are going to be top 5.

its at best the bottom part of a top 10, the early teens at the latest.

    as long as its healthy.

I don't understand how staing the obvious weknesses of this team means that i'm saying the sky is falling?
    I'm just being realistic.

you're correct in your assumption. The defense needs to be tested also.

I guess the assumption around here is that Rex knows defense...his pedigree speaks for itself.

But i'm with you....I want to see how the D reacts against an offense like the Pats or Saints.

you're not being realistic....you're making assumptions based on what the media is feeding you.

How about taking a "wait & see" approach....before pushing the perverbial panic button?

I think you're underestimating the effectiveness of our Oline and running game. In the past ( Herm/Pennington) we had issues because Herm tryed to force the run when our Oline was weak and we had a QB who could not stretch the field. Granted Sanchez/Clemens are young and inexperiennced but they both have the ability to stretch the field, you combine that with the fact that our Oline can open holes for Jones/Washington/Greene and teams will not be stacking the box on us.

Also keep in mind that the reigns will be loosened on Schotty this year , he no longer has the automaton keeping the lid on our agressiveness and in addition grey beard is gone so this will allow Schotty to use the entire playbook. Will our O still be a a primary run first - yes . Will we be predictable, I'd like to think - no

Hugh's load and hole have very little to do with this. And further more, that's just gross.

Really? Isn't it better to identify a problem and fix it before it gets worse, rather then sit back and watch?
You cannot sit there and tell me your happy with the type of offense we want to run and the players that we'll be running it with.
For Rex to even "joke" that Ellerd is the best WR we have speaks volumes.

The fact that we let Baker go is also something that i don't think has been given enough critisim.

Baker is highly over rated by many on here. There also wasn't enough parking available for him.

Why do people here want to make Baker a Pro Bowl TE. The guy was an average blocker/reciever who also happened to be a malcontent and didn't want to be here. - good riddance

    Dude..you're missing the point.

I don't know how i feel about the offense.....BECAUSE I HAVEN'T SEEN THEM PLAY YET.

I understand we need a #1 wideout....but there isn't anything we can do about that as fans....so you might as well get used to that. If Rex felt strongly about needing a WR....i'm sure he'll address that when he sees fit.

And like i said....let's give this team a chance to play first before we start freaking out about problems that MAY or MAY NOT need to be addressed.

I'm thinking we see the misdirection and shifting we saw from the 2006 offense to help disguise the units weaknesses.

Clearly if we still had Baker we would be ready for our SB run. Yup just like Pete Kendall was the difference a couple years back between 4-12 and a SB championship.

Seriously though, we are rebuilding and we have some really nice pieces to start with. Next offseason we fill in the remaining holes and really have a chance to make a run.

  18. It's gonna take some time for guys on D to remove the conservative "read and react" style of D Mangini preached into the "aggressive to a fault" stuff Rex wants. We should get by on talent early, enough to win a few games..but it's gonna take sometime schematically speaking, for things to get to a "dominant/top 5" level.

yep, and that is exactly why this is a transitional year and not a rebuilding one.

I think basing anything on early TC is nuts D or O. This team collapsed at the end of last year on both sides of the ball. We have some guys who are going to surprise to the upside but essentially we are rebuilding on both sides of the ball with a new system on D and a new QB on O. Expectations are way to high. This should be a fun season if we see some guys develop and a foundation of good young veterans start to form that can be quickly built around.

What we have seen the last several years is we seem to bounce year to year from somewhat competitive enough to get into the playoffs without being really strong to being really bad. The question is when do we have a real foundation to build a consistent team that adds pieces around it's core to go to the next level?
