I select Michael Strahan, Defensive End, New York Giants. Despite the fact that some look down upon him because of his gimme sack against Brett Favre, he is one of the greatest pass rushers of his time. Not only are his sack totals great, but he is a very stout run defender and one of the best.

I have his game-by-game stats. I'll post them at some point. Maybe on Sunday. The numbers are off the charts. Most historians rank Rice #1 and then Hutson and Alworth next.

I select C Mel Hein, New York Giants. An All-NFL player 8 straight years and was one of the true ironmen of the past. He never missed a game, including when he went back into a game after breaking his nose. He was the league MVP in 1938 - an amazing honor for an OL regardless of what time period
I select FS Willie Wood, Green Bay Packers. He was 1st or 2nd team All-NFL 9 times, played in 8 pro bowls, and played in 6 NFL championship games. 48 careers INTs, 2 returned for TDs. Also an excellent punt returner.
I select CB Jimmy Johnson. Recognized as one of the best man-to-man defenders in history, Johnson's reputation was so great that opposition quarterbacks threw only rarely into his defensive territory. Still, Johnson intercepted 47 passes and returned them 615 yards.
I will now draft the player who I have at #1 on my list of best players not in the Hall of Fame. He was a teammate of Freeman McNeil at UCLA. McNeil went third overall in the 1981 draft. This guy went fourth overall. He played seven seasons and had to retire due to kidney problems. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, he was the 1984 NFL defensive player of the year. He's still the best strong safety I've seen. He was a great tackler and had excellent ball skills (32 interceptions in 89 career games). Kenny Easley "One of the most vicious tacklers ever.
