Hotshot 1st round picks are useless until they start practicing with the team. All any of this is doing is hurting this team.
My biggest concern is when players hold out, they tend to get injuries (hamstrings, etc.) that hamper them for the entire season. We are counting on this kid to be a big part of our defense. I don't want to see him hurt on the sidelines.
There are still 13 unsigned #1 picks around the league. Seems high this year to have that many after camps have open.
But also keep in mind that he is comming out as a junior so he is less mature than the other players getting 5 yr deals.
there can be no argument for a sixth yr based on being compensated for the sixth yr. Even if he makes more in salary in the sixth and final yr, he will never make the 25 million, he could get in a signing bonus that yr by getting a new free agent deal. It just makes a lot of sense now that he is not under a contract, to get the one thats best for him. Once he signs any, the team is in complete control, and then determines when he gets the next one, not him. Even if he is lights out for the first 2 yrs, the team does not have to give him a new deal early. Baltimores Ed Reed comes to mind here.
not saying he did. My point is, for the longest while, everyone has been saying he is underpaid based on his accomplishments on the field. Now, whatever the length of ones deal, when the team decides that they don't have to give you a bigger deal, (whether or not you ask for it) because you are under contract, it just works out in your favor when that deal is shorter.
sigh. the broncos just signed jarvis moss (17th pick) to a 5yr deal 12 - Bills - RB Marshawn Lynch - 5 years 13 - Rams - DT Adam Carriker - 5 years 14 - Jets - CB Darrelle Revis - 15 - Steelers - OLB Lawrence Timmons - 5 years 16 - Packers - DT Justin Harrell - 5 years 17 - Broncos - DE Jarvis Moss - 5 years lets just offer revis a 6yr contract
I don't understand what the big deal is with needing Revis to sign a 6 year deal? Don't these contracts usually get redone after 3 or 4 years anyway? The last couple of years rarely come to fruition. What's the point?
thats exactly what i was saying earlier. there is no point. oh, the bengals just signed leon hall (18th pick) to a 5yr deal as well. this is getting ridiculous...
guys... the contracts only get re-done in 3-4 yrs when the team decides to give the player a new deal and lock him in before free agency. If he is not Richard Seymour good, where he is head and shoulders above his peers, he will not get another offer until the off- season oh his 5th yr in a 6 yr deal. He can accelerate his big payday, and possibly guarantee himself an extra deal towards the end of his career by shortening the first deal. The team his banking on the possibility, that they wont have to resign him to a mega deal untilthe end of yr 5 instead of the end of yr 4. Its just business!!
revis is not retarded. if he's not considered a bust in about 3-4 years, he will get a new contract. just like all the other 1st round picks. thats reality.
i suppose the organization pays you then....dude, everyone has an opinion, either way nobody is getting anything out of it other than the parties involved.
what does it matter if he was an underclassman or not? hes 22 years old, pretty much the avg age of a rookie.
He's missed two days now and I'm starting to get pissed. Give him the five years and get him in camp. Holdouts are at a serious disadvantage, and if this goes a week I think it starts to make a real difference. Every day makes a small difference because he's missing stuff that everybody else is learning and practicing.
profootballtalk.com/rumormill COULD REVIS RE-ENTER THE DRAFT? A league source tells us that the primary snag in the talks between the Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis, the No. 14 overall pick in the draft, is that the Jets are insisting on Revis signing a six-year deal, but that Revis wants a five-year contract. With so many players taken in the top 16 signing deals of five years in duration instead of the CBA maximum of six seasons, the refusal of the Jets to do a five-year deal could cause this to become one of the lengthier holdouts of the bunch. And there are indications that, unless the Jets yield on this point, Revis might sit out the entire season and re-enter the draft. Keep this in mind -- the uncle of Revis, Sean Gilbert, once sat out an entire season in a dispute with the Redskins. And thereafter Gilbert got paid a bunch of money. Will it happen with Revis? At this point, it's way too early to tell. But, unlike every other rookie or holdout, he's a least got someone in the family who played the patience game, and eventually won it. So if the Jets won't drop the demand for a six-year deal and unless the six-year deal compensates Revis fully and fairly for the extra year of free agency that he'll be sacrificing, Revis could end up re-entering the draft in 2008.
Basically, if Revis does not sign. This could go down as one of the weakest draft classes in history. 3 players, a 2nd, 6th, and 7th rounder. Ouch.
i blame his agent. how are gonna tell me with all the shit surrounding Kendall he isnt whispering in his ear...
