Exactly, that's why I don't believe him when he says such things. I would be fearful of it getting back to Mangini, his doghouse is not a great place to be.
I have lost all respect for Kendall, and I hope they hang him out to dry. Read this quote ?What am I going to do, cry or try to get my coaches to think that I?m the player that I think I am??? ?I?m not going to play down to that level. It?s not me to do that. This is what I do for a living and I know there are millions of people who would love to be doing what I?m doing. So I?m going to make the most of it and continue to be a professional.?? This came from the mouth of Justin McCareins who was in a much harder place than Kendall is last year, and handled it by working harder and saying all of the right things, in other words acting like a professional. Players with those types of attitudes are the ones that Mangini is trying to assemble. It is no mistake that Justin is still around after all of the crap that went down last year, not to mention his contract. Kendall can learn a lot from him. More quotes from the McCareins article ?That?s the best I?ve seen anybody take everything that was dished at him and continue to keep working and not have any moans or gripes,?? Jets receiver Laveranues Coles said. ?He won me over just by the way he handled everything, by the way he dealt with not starting, being on PUP the first couple days and he never let it get him down. He harnessed (the negative) and just played with it. I don?t know how he does it. ?If there?s anybody on this team I respect most it?s Justin McCareins. If there?s one word you can say about Justin McCareins it?s that he?s a true pro.?? Said Pennington: ?What that shows you is what the guy is made of. He?s not a selfish guy. He wants to contribute.?? Said Mangini: ?That?s what we look for, players who want to do something more to help us win.?? Good article if you want to read it. I couldn't help but think how differently Kendall could have handled this situation while I read this about McCareins. http://www.nypost.com/seven/07302007/sports/jets/new_leash_on_life_jets_mark_cannizzaro.htm?page=2
Great point...McCareins was saying that if he had to, he would be on Special Teams and nothing more if it meant him playing for the JETS and helping them win. Kendall is a selfish phuck who only cares about himself. I can't wait until Revis is at camp; I hope it's done within a week or he's losing serious time with his team, coaches, and the plays and coverages.
What would the one have to do with the other? Not being facetious or asking rhetorically... I really don't know. Is there some reason why we would need to sign Revis first? And again, is there no possibility that we can get something definitive for Kendall other than a compensatory pick, which is all we got for Jordan, I believe. I'm thinking if a team needs a decent Guard for a year or two, they might be willing to give us a #6 or so for next year. Is this possible or is it against the rules? This is my question.
They can definitely trade him, and I'm sure they are trying to. The problem may lie in that most teams know they can probably wait us out. I would love if they could trade him out to an NFC west team or something. It would just bother me if they just release him because you know he would sign with Miami or NE in a heart beat....
Exactly, he's just making things up said by anonymous people. He does this because you can't prove or disprove that anonymous people have said things. It sows dissension and mistrust. It is a true bush league move, but I think the FO and everyone else has come to expect it and not a soul believes him, that he's quote "opening eyes around here". If he thinks he's going to be let go, I have bridge in Brooklyn to sell him. Jets aren't stupid, he has value albeit low right now. 2 weeks into the season when some OLineman goes down. That value will shoot sky high. Then all this hassle pays off and we get something good in return. The FO is not as dumb as he is. He will not be let go.
I am of the opinion that Kendall should shut up and play, but... I don't really think the Kendall / JMac is a good comparison. First of all, JMac is making more than his performance dictates so he has nothing to complain about. Furthermore, JMac knows that if he does get cut he makes nothing and probably has less than a 50% chance of getting picked-up by another team. Whereas Kendall is getting paid less than his performance dictates and would probably get some decent guaranteed cash from another team if he was cut.
Why do you think that is? The guy played behind 2 very good WR's last season. I'm sure there more then a hand full of starters from other teams that would have been number 3 here last year as well.
Are you saying that JMac is a starting-quality WR. please... (the guy had potential 4 years ago...never realized it...end of story)
Yeah, but I think you're missing the point of Baamf's post. The comparison is about professionalism and character, etc, not whether or not the one guy in question can get a job easier than the other or get more cash. It matters not what the % of chances are that the guy will get picked up by someone else, what matters is how the dispute is handled and how publicly disruptive (or not so) you choose to make it. I think this was the point of the comparison. Kendall crossed the line substantially. He crossed too far over the line when he chose, when he didn't get what he desired, to publicly and personally attack Mangini and the FO the way he has. He restructured his contract and re-signed to basically trade off salary for signing bonus. Now that he has pocketed the signing bonus, he goes back to the salary issue and says he's underpaid by $1 Million. This is patently false and dishonest, given all the terms and conditions of his restructured contract, so he's not only operating from the position of being dishonest in terms of having been "screwed" by the FO and Mangini, he then took it below the belt by terming Mangini deceptive and so forth. Look, there are those that are now saying that Kendall is being made an example, including Kendall himself. I say, "Yeah, you bet your boopie you're being made an example of. We don't need prima donna's like you around here, setting an example for every Tom, Prick and Harry that after you've restructured, you hve the right to come back in and demand something else after the fact." The one thing this team does not have and doesn't need are the type of Michael Strahan situations the Giants have and deal with constantly becasue they don't put their foot down with some of these assholes. The Jets are miles apart from the Giants in terms of distractions like Strahan and Shockey and Burress and even Tiki brought into the locker room, talking about their coach like he was some kind of POS. But the Giants have brought this kind of crap on themselves because, for years, they cowtow and give in to every dissenting asshole in the locker room. Mangini and company are attempting to nick this kind of thing at the bud and I for one agree 100% with what they're doing with Kendall.
I don't disagree with how the Jets are handling Kendall. The guy has a contract and should play it out. If he is upset about the comp, then he only has himself and his agent to blame and shouldn't take it out on the Jets organization. However, my point was that JMac has to be an exemplary professional just to stay on the team whereas Kendall has a lot more value to the Jets so it doesn't matter if he acts like a professional or not. Futhermore, his public song-and-dance is an attempt to get the Jets to cut him. So I don't think the comparison between the levels of professionalism between the two is fair. That being said, Kendall should act walk the talk and be a professional. It is increasingly easier to understand why he was run out of Arizona. Interesting questions, at this point do you think the Jets are keeping Kendall because the need his depth on the line or as a matter of precedent?
No, I never said that he's a starting quality WR. Teams need depth though, and in limited action last year Jmac proved he can provide that.
This wasn't in the article on the 1st page...seems like he is stepping it up even another notch talking about Mangini Later, speaking only to the Daily News, Kendall suggested that head coach Eric Mangini "conveyed frustration with his own contract situation during a private meeting in March." "He told me a lot of things [in confidence]," Kendall said. "He sounded empathetic to my situation. I don't want to go much further than that right now." ________________ I see the Jets having Kendall through camp and then suspending him for conduct detrimental to the team for the first four games, then making him inactive the rest of the way.
Kendell is just going to spill new information every day, and it's only going to get more harsh. At some point, we have to determine when this type of player becomes poisonous to the rest of the team and the organization as a hole, and that is when he needs to be cauterized.
A few points. The Kendall/JMac comparison was good. JMac was not going to be unceremoniously released and not catch on with another team. As a matter of fact, before the season started last year, the Titans were willing to deal to bring him back. I vaguely recall another team showing interest, but I can't recall the specifics right now. Fact is, JMac did the right thing. Kendall is a douche. As for compensation, no JMac has not lived up to his, but come on, Kendall wants to be paid like an All-Pro, and is getting some good damn money to begin with, and he's not that good. I find it hard to justify a statement that he's underpaid for his performance. The one interesting thing though, is if he's actually saying Mangini empathized with him privately. Why would he bring his head coach's name into the mix if it weren't true? That's career suicide. Especially if it was said in confidence. The thing is, he's still playing with the second team. So Mangini must feel either 1) Kendall is a jerkoff and he wants him gone, or 2) no matter what, Kendall will not be on the Opening Day roster, so why waste the time? Last thing is on the subject of when Revis is signed, Kendall is gone. I think that's a very insightful point actually. Here's the reason, at least from my POV. They both have the same agent. We know that Revis and the Jets are roadblocked by a full year on the contract. We also know that Kendall is throwing a fit to get his way, and that he is nowhere in the same vicinity as Revis in terms of talent. If the Jets were to release Kendall before Revis was signed, think about the message it would send. Basically, "we'll make demands, and stick by them, unless you hold your stance for long enough, then we'll cave." You can't send that message.
