Clemens is going to get his chance whether we draft a QB or not but if the FO feels either Sanchez or Freeman can be franchise QBs they cannot pass on them because of Kellen Clemens. I think it is pretty clear that the FO/CS isn't very confident in him, it would be nice to have someone to turn to in the likely event that he fails. I won't be happy with any defensive player in the first rd, especially a CB. I think our secondary issues were overblown in the first place. No secondary is going to look good with the amount of time the QB had last year to pick them apart. With the addition of Sheppard, Strickland & another year from Lowery our secondary will be fine as long as the pash rush improves. If the pass rush doesn't improve it doesn't matter who we bring in for the secondary. I do agree though that Davis has a world of talent and if he does get his head in the game he will make some team very happy, I just hope it isn't with the Jets.
Not saying you are wrong of course, but what gives you that impression? They have said a million times over, that their starter is already on the roster. They have also said that they have the utmost faith in Clemens/Ratliff, the Vets have stated that they think these two need to get their shot, and think they are more than capable. Short of having thrown their name in the ring for cutler (which apparently half the league did) what did the jets do to make it pretty clear they don't like what they have to work with?
I hope we roll with what we've got at QB this year, we can't keep drafting QB's every 2 or 3 years. With our O-Line we just need someone to not make mistakes (aka not Brett Favre) and manage the game. I think Ratliff is going to emerge the winner out of camp and really show us something this year. I would be all for getting either a RB or WR with the 1st round pick to help out the offense.
