since I last posted here, which was ages ago, I've put on even more weight. Things are getting desperate. Over the last month, I've restricted my diet, added a lot more fruits and vegetables, replaced juice and soda with more seltzer and water, stopped eating close to bedtime (I used to eat late at night. Now I try to put a few hours in between eating and sleeping), and I now hit the track a few times a week.* I even work with weights occasionally. I don't eat fast food at all except pizza once a week.

No noticeable effect thus far, although I'm down two pounds.

I don't look bad except for my stomach. I gotta get that down somehow.

*- My main problem with this is I have a workout partner and he's been a bit of a flake. He's been dating and now he's engaged. He also works until 6:30, so he cuts way too much. Last night he told me we'd be doing it every night so he'd look better for the engagement party in a few weeks, but tonight AND tomorrow night he's flaking on me. My legs are sore as hell after all the sprinting last night, so maybe it's good to go a bit lighter anyway.

That's damn impressive. 5 miles a day? On a good night, I do 3.5 miles between the track and the walking/jogging to and from.

One of the things I do is at subways when you have to up quite a ways (last week I was at 61st and Lex and it's 4 flights, I think, to street level) is doing the stairs. Everyone else is taking the escalator. What I do is take the stairs and not stop. I make it up as fast as the people on the escalator. My legs start to lock up at the end, but I make it.

Good stuff. Keep it up Yis.

If you can get some weight training in, that's the best way to lose weight. Muscle burns calories even when you're at rest.

Actually going to join one of those Retro Fitness gyms that's opening up within walking distance of my apartment soon. I figure I'm more inclined to be motivated to exercise when I'm actually paying a monthly fee for it :)

if your not properly motivated to begin with, paying for it may not be enough. I did the same thing two years ago...joined the gym, bought the most expensive package so I would be "motivated". I went two weeks and that was that. Then this time when the doctor told me I really need t oget in shape, I did. No gym. Running in the street like rocky and eating properly.

Johnnyd is right. I actually read an article not too long ago about "Fitness Clubs". Their entire premise for their business is to get people in the door on a contract. They don't give a crap if you never walk in the door again, in fact, they count on it.

That's why you're always seeing "This is your last chance to lock in the old rate" commercials on tv. They just want you to come in, pay up, and leave. If you're motivated to begin with, you'll never go, and you're just wasting money.

But don't let me prevent you from trying if you really want to. I just don't think it's a good idea to risk the money loss. For the same cost (probably less), you can visit a sporting goods store and purchase some dumbells to work with at home.

EDIT: BTW jonny, I'm F'n proud of you dude. Seriously. Keep it up bro!

    gyms are a scam.

don't do it. You probably won't go enough to make it worthwhile.

Naturally. They make the most money off those people. There are a lot of people like that, and the gym just rakes in money and doesn't have to give anything to return.

Your gym is not a charity. Don't give them money for nothing.

No, I used to go to a gym 5 days a week before work several years ago and then I moved and didn't like any of the gyms in the area. There's a Bally's nearby but it's too big, if that makes any sense. Way too crowded. This one is right down the street from my place.

I actually have stuff in my place, some free weights, a bench, and an eliptical machine. My problem is that when I get home, I look at it and get distracted with something else. Either I start watching a little tv or messing around on my computer, and then I put it off. I'm essentially addicted to football, and also an MMO that I play way too much. When I'm home, I'm either here or on other Jets' sites, or I'm playing my game.

When I used to go to the gym where I used to live, it would force me to go to bed earlier so I could wake up earlier to go. I also wound up going from 230 down to about 190. So that will help too because now I'm up too late and I'm dragging in the morning. I'm also sitting at 250lbs and basically sick of it.

It's basically me using this as motivation to get out of my place. Once I'm out and at the gym, I have no problems working out, I love it. Having the stuff at home was what was killing me because my addictions won out every time.

Maybe those foods just arent right for you.

I workout alot. and Hard. had to move out of my house, so I cancelled my gym membership.
(Living at my MiL's while doing construction...)

all those months no real progtres.

Made one simple change, didnt work out for three weeks. My waist went from a full 36, to a flat (but still full) 34. Now that I'm back to working out, I expect to get to 32.

    the simple change.

Gave up the two protein shakes (no carb's) that I was having for breakfast and lunch.

Did the Atkins induction for two weeks for a jump start, then went to eating a normal dinner.
    at night.

Here's the diet part. From morning till dinner I have one thing to eat.

A whopper junior with cheese. thats it.

Lost about 10 lbs, almost all from my midsection.

I just moved out to Syracuse and I left my gym out in Utica... best gym in the friggen world. I paid 20 bucks a month and went 4 days a week and did some cardio boot camp classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Best shape of my life because I hate cardio and this was the only way for me to put it in my workout.

Now I'm out in 'Cuse and just signed up at Planet Fitness (aka. Globo Gym) for 10 bucks a month because all the gyms around here are for the friggen birds. Treadmills here I come :(

Anyone willing to only consume 370 calories over a 10-12 hour stretch is probably going to lose weight.
