Having been at the game your point that he didn't play great was an understatement. He played like a guy who was afraid to win. The 49ers are an amazingly talented team that simply couldn't get it done with a game manager QB and their HC understands that.
I can live with that...not a question. Just wanted to test the waters with a realistic trade debate.
Hey, I'm not hating, better than asking about JaMarcus Russell's availability! For some reason, I just cannot stand Alex Smith.
These are my thoughts as well. I think Smith is a good QB, but he just reminds me of a QB that would come to NY and suck badly because he wasn't put in the same situation he had in SF; QB guru monitoring, skilled playmakers on offense, etc.
Exactly. I'm fundamentally against giving up any assets for a perennially mediocre quarterback whose biggest strength is not making the big mistake. Having said that, he's far less mistake prone than Sanchez is and would probably stabilize the position, so if we ever had the opportunity to sign him on the cheap (we likely will not have such an opportunity), I would be all for it.
I'm already sick of hearing about Alex Smith. If he wants to come here and get paid like the place holder he is then fine but the reality is he is going to go and get paid like a top QB which clearly he is not. He would do nothing other then stunt the process of finding the next franchise QB of the Jets.
i generally agree with you most of the time, but want no part of smith. he was the suckchise before harbaugh arrived on the scene. besides, other teams are in much better trade and cap position to get smith, even if the jets really wanted him.
Thank you. Dude's turning 29 in a few months and he's worth no more to the Jets than a Drew Stanton-type contract given our cap fiasco.
Well-put. He's everything we hoped Sanchez could be this year (mediocre-at-best game manager) which clearly isn't worth paying significant money or giving anything up for.
This. Given that it's arguable comparing Sanchez to Alex Smith, that alone makes him not good enough to acquire.
Man, 2 things here are making people fuzzy headed. -Replacing Sanchez -Trading Revis It's as if everyone is in a panic because these two things... It's crazy. We're talking about THE best at his position one of the best players ever... Sanchez, yeah not so much but seriously, this is ALEX F*#^$N' SMITH! While I did support him in SF before the new QB came to town it was pretty much the league consensus that this guy sucked. Ironically, Harbaugh did what we did To Sanchez (1st 2 years) and limited his mistakes, a great TE and a killer running attack that's the only reason he had limited Success. But seriously, it's Alex Smith...
As of now it doesnt appear the Jets are in the running for Smith. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...miths-time-with-san-francisco-49ers-nears-end
This year? Throwing it to Clyde Gates, and Mardy Gilyard, for an OC Mike Westhoff openly ridiculed? Really? The whole offense was healthy week one....how did that go?
Alex Smith has a 2-25 career record as a starter when the San Francisco 49ers have allowed at least 24 points. You sure you guys want him as a starter?
