    "Not that hard a hit, at least not by the standards of National Football League seismologists. Or so it appeared. But, it developed later, he had been wobbled by an unidentified Bronco knee or thigh a few plays earlier. And when Brooks hit him, only Al Toon knew how hard he was hit.

    "It felt," he recalled yesterday, "like a cannonball hit me in the back of the head. When I came to, I remember thinking it wasn't all that bad, but it got worse."

    The unidentified Bronco knee was the out of control piece of shit Atwater flying around at safety. I knew it as soon as it happened.

    The next weekend Byrd is paralyzed, I think the worst 7 day stretch in franchise history.
