No reason why #10 would not be used again. It will look a little odd at first in training camp, but oh wait, no one will be at training camp anyway since it will be 10 hours away.
Like I said, I have no problem with someone wearing Chad's #10. But the man love for Chrebet on this board is overwhelming. I would say he's the 4th or 5th best receiver in Jets' history, which is also where Chad probably slides in when it comes to the QB ranks. Curtis -- that's a different story.
28 will be retired someday, I'm not sure if someone has tried to take 80 yet. Remember they opened up 11-20 for WRs so alot of younger guys go w/ those #s. They gave away Mo's #57 a year after he left and Mo was a better Jet than Chrebet was.
Chrebet may just be the most overrated Jet in history. He was never the best WR on the team any year he played. He had nothing on Walker or Toon.
i think the big thing about chrebet is he exemplified everything you want to see in a player. hard work, trying your ass off every play, etc. not to mention he was a jet for a while
It's not about where the players rank in terms of their position in Jets history. It's about the players actually being good lol. Chrebet was great. Chad was a pain in the ass with occasional stints of productivity. As for Curtis... Well lets just say that when my first son is born his first name will be Curtis and his middle name will be Martin.
They gave away Wesley Walker's #85 to Rob Moore the very first camp Walker was gone (1990), so I'm not sure it means anything. Martin's #28 wil be retired because he's a lock for the Hall of Fame, Chrebet's #80 will probably be used again some time. Perhaps the most disrespectful thing in team history was giving Boomer Esiason #7 and holding it up at a press conference while Ken O'Brien was still on the active roster in the 1993 off-season.
Miami isn't even that crazy with Chad. They're gonna give Henne every opportunity to win the job over Chadwick.
I am guessing that they don't hate him, just realize that he is not going to lead them to a title. That playoff game was horrible.
