We needed an OLB who could rush the passer, an LG, an RT, and a DT. We got all of them. It may seem desperate, but at the same time, it's also filling the needs that a 4-12 team has.
i was a little worried at how much we're doling out for these players but we were so much under the cap and then saved so much with cutting certain guys. we needed to pay to get these guys to come over here....our team needs a jolt. at the very least, pace is a young guy we're taking a chance on.
so now that this trade with d rob fell threw...what is the cap situation like after this? i wonder if we can still trade him for higher value
We're down to somewhere between 4.7 and 8.7 (estimate). My guess is that somehow we'll figure out a drob trade/release or otherwise pickup cap room (Pennington).
In what way is it desperate to go out and trade for or sign one of the highest rated players/FAs at each of the four key positions of need?
I personally think we need a thread just to keep up with the Jets' moves. I mean sheesh... -So before UFA they cut Dyson, McCariens and Adrien Clarke -During UFA they sign Pace to big money, trade a third and a fifth-rounder for Jenkins and sign him to a decent-sized deal, trade Vilma for a fourth-rounder and an optional second or third-rounder next year (at the cost of that year's fourth-rounder) and lost Erik Coleman. And they're trying to move D-Rob for a fourth and fifth-rounder to Cinci. I miss anything?
I agree; the salary cap, the CBA, and revenue sharing has really done a lot to keep parity in the NFL. It was working fine until NE figured out a way to get around it - cheating. j/k a bit, but, yes, lifting the cap would ruin football.
A couple of news outlets are reporting that the Jenkins contract is for much less guaranteed than was believed http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080304/SPORTS01/803040377/1108/SPORTS01 http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...jets_stay_busy_by_signing_lb_calvin_pace.html It looks like we got a pretty good deal here. 5 yrs/30 million? That's a bargain for a DT in this market.
