Last year with my friends, an 8 team league I got him early on in pre-season from the Free Agency. Yes Ray Rice....it's not like anybody was expecting him to do much last August.

Edit: I think I may have picked him up in July.

My thing is never commit to a strategy to much, because then you expose yourself to missing really good picks. If your going rb-rb in the first two rounds and you pick a running back and Andre Johnson is available in the second (not likely, but possible) your going to want to take Johnson

Also I try not to touch a defense or kicker before round 10. If you do your homework you can still come away with a good defense and a good kicker, while spending time drafting sleepers and quality reserves who could net you lots of points when your starters are out

agreed my friend. the more ive been mocking it out, the less I see of the possibility of going with anyone else. I know the kids in this league, Ray Rice isn't falling to me. Gore MIGHT, but I doubt it. And even then, I'd take Gore but I'd be very wary of his injury history. No no, I'm thinking its gotta be Johnson, and then go BPA between RB and QB in the second. I waited last year until the third and nabbed rivers and was very happy with him, but if i can get peyton in the latter part of the second I probably do it.

EDIT: I just realized obviously with a snake draft I'd have the 5th pick in the second. So I doubt I go qb unless there's a run. I might be looking at hoping greeney falls, the only thing is, is LT going to poach td's.

Not really, they weren't even in the top 5.

A good defense is not necessarily a good scoring defense. I wish the rules were different, but such is fantasy football.

Gotta agree with BrotherMoose here. I have picked up a "top 5 defense" (Carolina, Baltimore and Chicago come to mind over the past 5-6 years) in many drafts only to have them not score many points for me. It takes nothing away from the actual defense but fantasy defense and actual defense are two different things. Look into how your defense scores points and draft that way. In one of my leagues, if the D gives up six points has a sack and an INT, you would only get 8 points. That states nothing to how good the defense was that day. Defense is very unpredictable. It's a crap-shoot!

...and even then, drafting a D in the 4th round is retarded even if you get lucky and pick one of the 3 out of 32 that scores big. 7th round for a D, tops.

agreed. The top 2 players in my league last year both changed their d's each week to whoever played a poor offense. AKA Defense in FF is overrated.

There's no way this is a good idea. Look at the total point differentials for defenses then look at it for position players. Round 12 or 13. And if ur drafting before sept 1 it's a waste of time

On that note, if it's about average and you have 8-10 teams in your league I would say rounds 6-7 to be safe. If you have 12-16 teams in your league I would say around round 5 at the lowest.
